Amazon.com Product Description

How much speed do you need? If power and topnotch performance are what you crave, check out the Compaq Presario 6024US desktop. As a member of Compaq's cost-efficient 6000 series, the 6024US does not include speakers or a monitor, thus allowing you to customize the configuration of your own audio-video setup. It does, however, have everything else to make even your most taxing programs take flight.

From the ground up, the 6024US is built to impress. The unit is driven by a muscular 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor with 32 KB of Level 1 pipeline burst cache, 256 KB of Level 2 pipeline burst cache and a 400 MHz system bus speed. Graphic processing is handled by a robust 64 MB nVidia GeForce2 MX200, and system memory is preconfigured at a massive 512 MB of 266 MHz DDR DRAM (expandable to 1 full gigabyte). Make no mistake--this is a seriously powerful machine for seriously demanding users.

Yet for all its hot-rod speed, the 6024US is also plenty roomy. Compaq has included a massive 80 GB hard drive for long-term storage and program installs, and a 3.5-inch diskette drive for smaller files and quick backups. It has installed a superfast 24-speed (write) CD-RW drive to make quick work of any data or audio recording, and a 16-speed DVD drive for error-free viewing of your favorite movies. And if you ever do want to add another drive, the unit's spare expansion bay is ready to accommodate.

The 6024US is convenient, too. Its 23.8-pound enclosure features a variety of input and output connections, including four USB ports, a parallel and serial port, line-in and line-out audio ports, a microphone-in jack and a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port for LAN connectivity and high-speed Internet browsing. Its 56K modem delivers low-speed Internet and e-mail support for those who prefer to surf at a more leisurely pace, and its keyboard offers a number of one-touch multimedia, e-mail, and Web buttons to help streamline day-to-day computing tasks. Installed software includes the Home Edition of the Windows XP operating system, Microsoft Money 2001, Microsoft Works 6.0, Quicken Financial Center/Quicken New User Edition and Intervideo's WinDVD movie player.

Certainly not for computer users on a budget or those who'd rather not supply a separate monitor and speaker system, the Compaq Presario is nevertheless an extremely capable machine for virtually any 2-D and 3-D application.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great little machine........2002-06-26

Got this for work, and since I'm in IT, it naturally has a good deal of server applications running on it (SQL Server, SMTP server, web server, ftp server), not to mention other random programs like a firewall and Norton with the most paranoid and power-hungry settings possible. I also frequently run programs like photoshop, illustrator, quarkXpress, acrobat, massive excel files, and much more...not to mention the occasional 3d-shooter late at night...don't tell my boss!

So, considering the amount of programs I am constantly running on top of the background applications, this is running extremely capably. Not a problem yet.

Just a side note, I have win2k server installed rather than winXP (which would probably be fine but doesn't have the same functionality).

Looks nice, takes up little space, runs so quietly I seriously can't hear it...especially compared to the darn Mac G4 sitting behind me, or my old HP.

And if you've had bad experiences with compaqs in the past...well I have too...up until a couple years ago their computers weren't worth squat in my opinion...very shoddy. But now they're by far the best widely commercially available and affordable PCs available. They probably took a cue from their business server department and started making good computers finally. Happy with this and with my 2701 US presario notebook =)

5 out of 5 stars 6024US worth the money.......2002-06-20

My wife have been waiting for a new machine. Finally, I bought her this one. Small size, fast, quiet, and tons of hard drive space.
BTW. 80G not 8G...
After loading all graphics design(Adobe photoshop 7.0, Illustrator..etc) that she used to use, play around some rendering stuuffs, she is really happy on the speed.
Right on my budget as well.

Comes with Windows XP@Home, 3 games, include simcity 3000 unlimited(That game she has been waiting long time...)

Why wasting your time look around. This is the one you need.

5 out of 5 stars Using computers since 1974.......2002-05-25

Best value for the money. Second was HP. MS XP is great. Decades ahead of 98. Circuit City people in Palm Desert were so nice to deal with. They were not that informed about a Amazon/Circuit City pick up program, but tried hard and and did get our computer. Comsumer Reports gave XP/Norton great reviews, a must use to protect against viruses and as a firewall.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT VALUE.......2002-05-07

JUST RECIVED IT LAST WEEK ONLY UPGRADE G-FORCE 4 4600TI I'M A HARDCORE GAMER. THIS COMPUTER REALLY MOVES.... YOU GET ALOT FOR THE MONEY AND DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT RUNNING ANY PROGRAMES FOR QUITE A WHILE.THE DDR MEMORY REALLY MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE. ALSO GOOD SOFTWARE BUNDLE YOU CAN GET LOST IN THE 80 GIG HARD DRIVE THERE IS SO MUCH ROOM.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPUTER.

4 out of 5 stars This Item is great! ^_^.......2002-05-04

I guess i should say this computer is what everone wants today i should say because when you see a computer on the market you only get a small amout of space like 20GB<--(Gegabites) and a
128MB<--(Megabites) That not that bad and your get the petom chip what makes it all good.. But still you really get that amout of gegabites what let you not put much on your computer so i should this is a good computer for them people who like to store stuff on there computers and i think we all like to sure stuff on them like mp3s and what not ^_^ But then you get the tottal of 1000 megabite ram what makes it fun for everone because it go so fast.. So it a great deal i should i recamend it to any user who wants a good price on a monder for there new computer. But why i gave it a 4 is because it did not come with speakers and manader but it all good i just love this computer i am really buging my mom for it because i dont have the money right now but soon i will ^_^ and i am buying this one or a better one i dont know probly this one ^_^ but i hope you liked my post The review was great and hope you buy this computer becaue it graet!
