The G520's short-neck cathode-ray tube design squeezes an extensive 19.8-inch screen into a unit that's less than 19 inches deep, freeing up some much needed space in close work quarters. A tube that's 50 percent shorter than those in conventional CRTs places all 21 inches of the viewing area comfortably on any desktop.Image clarity is maximized with a 0.24-millimeter aperture grille pitch, and Sony's Enhanced Elliptical Correction System automatically corrects picture deformation for sharper video. The G520's large screen area packs a palette of resolutions to adapt to a variety of video memory freedoms and constraints. A maximum resolution of 1,600 by 1,200 at 75 Hz can accommodate the most demanding video requirements of your applications, from DVD to CAD design.
Sony's GeoLock circuitry erects an impervious barrier between the CRT and any stray electromagnetic field, resulting in consistently stable, uniform image projection. Active Signal Correction eliminates the need to manually adjust the screen settings by instantly optimizing the basic picture controls for largest viewing area. All digital controls are still available, however, at the touch of the keypad below the screen.
The G520 is intended for Windows XP/NT/98 platform communication with PCs, but it's fully Macintosh compatible as well. Dual input control allows for simultaneous connection to two computers, including a Macintosh and PC at the same time. International Energy Star compliance ensures limited emissions and more efficient power consumption.
Customer Reviews:
pricey but I found a cheaper alternative.......2003-11-12
Not quite an Eizo but awsome for the price.......2003-05-06
I was torn between giving it a 5 star rating for being such an awesome VALUE, and a 4 star rating for it's lack of features.
Nice Looking CRT.......2002-07-30
The first thing you'll notice about the G520P is the two tone silver and gray cabinet. It's probably the most attractive design on the market - certainly an improvement over the original G520.
As far as features go, the G520P is lacking a USB hub and BNC connectors. You'll have to go to the more expensive GDM-F520 model if you require either of these amenities. On the other hand, it does offer dual HD15 inputs, which might be nice if you wanted to hook up two machines at the same time.
Image quality is reasonably good. I found the G520P to be exceptionally bright and colourful, which is great for games and DVDs. Small text was a little on the blurry side, though this could potentially be attributed to my nVidia video card, which isn't really known for its 2d image quality. The monitor can reach resolutions as high as 2048x1536, but I found that 1280x1024 was the most comfortable for my eyes.
The on screen controls aren't bad, but navigation is made awkward by Sony's "Display Mouse". It's nothing more than a button that you push up or down to cycle through the various settings. The difficult part is that you have to push it inwards to activate your selection. It's not a terrible design, but I've certainly seen better.
Overall, I'm fairly happy with the Sony G520P. If you're interested in purchasing a 21" monitor, it's certainly worth a look. I would also recommend checking out some of the Diamondtron monitors - particularly the Mitsubishi 2060u and the Samsung Syncmaster 1200NF.
I hope this has been helpful!
