Customer Reviews:
I think it is great for the price........2004-06-26
I have owned it for 2 months. I purchased it at Sam's Club where they have a 6 month, no problems return policy. It cost like $540. It was much cheaper than comparable monitors from Best Buy and other stores. A pivot monitor like this is very hard to find and when you do they are much more money. I have the Model: X9G Agamma III. Everything works great, installed great, no problems. I think the picture quality is awesome!! I don't use the computer though for high end graphics use though like games.
Cons: the one year manufacturer's warranty is poor, but you can buy an extended warranty at Sam's Club which are very cheap. Also, the speakers as you could of guessed are very weak.
Cool Monitor, Crappy Warranty!.......2004-05-12
This lcd monitor fascinated me enough to go out and buy it. I hooked up the monitor with the shortest cable provided ever known to mankind, to the back of my pc, loaded the software to pivot the screen and let er rip. As I familiarized my self with the monitor, a few quirks came up. Yes you can pivot the screen (real neat) to view web pages in portrait mode, however scrolling is not eliminated as claimed by the product description/review. The picture is clear with a image contrast of 700:1, but nowhere in the manual does it state what the dot pitch/pixel pitch are? I guess one has to guess? The warranty and repair policy on this product just plain sucks. The warranty manual states the following: "In the event that your product is no longer made/obsolete, Sceptre will "repair" the unit with similar parts of equal value (picture a chevy corvette with a chevette hood) "If a similiar part is not available a charge my be incurred to the owner for any upgraded part/subsitute" SEE EXCLUSION #6. "SCEPTRE DOES NOT WARRANT BURNT PIXELS..PERIOD" I called Sceptres customer service to find out if the warranty covers a burned backlight, which can be one of the most expensive things to fix. Unfortunately I could not get a straight answer, and therefore have decided to return the product from where it was bought. Call my crazy, call me cynical, but a 1 year warranty, that doesnt fix burnt pixles, nor possibly a burnt backlight, is just unnacceptable. I shall be purchasing a Samsung 193v lcd that comes std with a 3 year warranty that will fix/replace anything with no questions asked. Heck Samasung's customer service rep's told me they would ship out a replacement even before you sent them yours!
Ok overall, good deal for the price.......2004-01-11
This was my first LCD monitor and overall I was happy with it...until it stopped working (DVI then analog) after about 2 months. Now I have to pay to ship it back across the country in the hopes that I'll get it fixed in a timely manner. Sceptre's customer service is marginal. I'm using the monitor with an ATI 9600XT card on the DVI connection. As others have mentioned, I am able to detect some ghosting using this monitor while playing Quake but it's not real bad (I'm not a big gammer). Overall, it is a nice monitor and a big improvement in picture sharpness/quality than the CRTs I've used. At this point I almost wish I could take a refund and opt for a Sony, or at least something with a better warranty than the 1-year on the Sceptre. Assuming yours doesn't stop working it's a great monitor for the sub-$600 price.
We are returning them..........2003-11-21
We ordered two of these because the manufacturer's website claims that the response time is 15ms rise, 10ms fall and the contrast ratio is 700:1. These as anybody will tell you are very impressive numbers. However, when we received the monitors we ran the following test on a Windows machine to test the response time:
1) Set Windows to draw window content while moving (display properties).
2) On Notepad type ' * ' and make the font size 150-200. You can also use Paint and draw a large black asterisk on a white background.
3) Shake the Notepad window around the screen.
5) Look at the amount of trailing or ghosting that you get.
FYI, the response time affects how quickly pixels can be turned on or off (rise/fall), causing ghosting effects on high-contrast moving images.
With 15ms/10ms response time we shouldn't see any ghosting at all. This monitor is so slow that even the 20 ms/30ms Planar PT1814NUV we have does a whole lot better. In addition, we compared it with a Viewsonic VX900 which claims to have a 25ms total response time and the Viewsonic is much better also. So I don't know where Sceptre gets their numbers from.
We did notice that the monitor was very bright, maybe 20% more than our other monitors, which might be the main concern if your office receives direct sunlight or you work outside. The ghosting was the same even when we lowered the contrast and the brightness.
In conclusion, this might be a good monitor for the price (500 on some websites) but the claim about the response time is definitely false.
Great Monitor, Great Price.......2002-12-25
OK, it lacks some of the features of higher priced 19 inch TFT monitors, but THE PRICE. WOW, you can't beat this price with a stick. Plus the brightness and speed of the screen refresh make it great for graphics (gaming, graphical design, DVD playing, etc.)
If you want the big monitor but don't want to pay an arm and a leg get a Sceptre.
