I purchased this monitor in January 2004, started using it within a few months from then, and was somewhat disappointed with the quality. Adjusting the vertical moire canceler setting helped quite a bit, but the quality toward the left and right sides of the screen was still unsatisfactory.

Today, 9/27/04, I turned on my monitor and discovered that everything had multiple fading shadows to the right. The shadows are most noticeable with black on white, but they are always there no matter what the contrasting colors are. Sorry for that lousy description, but I don't know how else to describe it.

After some testing and a couple calls to NEC (to make sure that the problem was the monitor), they informed me that I have two choices: they can repair my monitor, or replace it with another -refurbished- monitor. I would also have to pay for shipping to them. I cannot get a refund with NEC since I ordered it from Amazon. Instead, I'm hoping that I can still get a partial refund from Amazon (I should have an answer by tomorrow), and use that toward the purchase of a more reliable non-NEC monitor with better reviews. Or, maybe I should get the refurbished replacement and then sell that on eBay :-/

Surprise disappointment from NEC.......2004-07-02

I purchased this monitor in December 2002, and by December 2003 the picture had turned green. Since that time the color has been on and off. Prior to this failure the color has always been beautiful, but I had hoped it would last longer than a year. I have been working with NEC to get a replacement, but in the end I will have to pay to ship the old monitor back, and they will only give me a refurb to replace my failed monitor. Not sure what to recommend instead.

Just a week ago I read a polarized reviews of this monitor asking myself which opinion to believe. At the end I was stupid enough to make a decision based on the professional look and average high marks. It was a mistake. The screen is realy bad.

I used to order computer hardware for the company I worked in and saw lots of good and bad CRTs. This one looks like a cheep "Business" series of other brands. Terrible moire on the left curable only by 100% h-moire correction, which on the other hand makes it a bit blurry. It looks like you can actualy see the crt mask. Every line is comletely separate. Every black dot has a colored side shades.

Don't beleave your eyes. This screen looks very professional but it's not.

I had a 17" sony before this and I cant believe my eyes this monitor is fantastic! I tweaked the settings to adjust the screen size (which by the way was very easy to do) and I am just blown away by the picture Im getting. Super sharp text, deep rich color. This is one well made monitor!
