Clie N610C. A repair after 14 months costs too much.......2003-05-23
I called Sony two days ago. They have the most impressive and accurate voice messaging system I have ever heard. After a lengthy, but clever, screening, I managed to hear human voices. Very kind, obviously reading scripts from screens. I could not distinguish the electronic voice system from actual real people. They were following a coreographed procedure. Did you reset? Yes. Did you recharge? Yes. After repeating about 3 times, I was told to ship the unit for repair. The cost [is] mind boggling... After only 14 months since new. This is the end of the script of Sony Clie Service.
I just want to warn the potential buyers. Sony charges the PDA consumer hidden costs tha annoy and make an otherwise a loyal owner very disappointed.
Excellent PDA.......2002-05-08
The Good:
Excellent display-High resolution; I appreciate this more than I thought I would. Go for color-its worth it.
Long battery life.
Jog dial-really nice.
Cover is fine-I have had no problems with this.
Asthetics-very nice looking PDA.
Price-you can get a great deal on one now that the 615 is out.
The Bad:
Its heavy.
Sony provided brochures not very helpful - although I had a good experience with Sony customer service. They had my info from my old palm into my CLIE in 15 minutes.
Overall this is an excellent PDA. As long as the weight doesn't bother you I would highly recommend this PDA.
A worthy upgrade.......2002-01-29
What I like:
1) best screen I've ever seen, bright and Hi-Res, it is great to shot off your photos;
2) Jog-dial is easy for one hand operation;
3) long battery life;
4) very stylish;
5) Memory stick - what! Did say Memory stick is good? Yeah, you bet. Comparing with CF, it is small. Size does matters. I guess it is why Palm uses SD or MMC, but they are more expensive than MS. Again, MS is not Sony-only any more. I use Lexar and I see SanDisk out there too;
6) 8MB is enough if you know how to use MS with MsMount, and you will never short of storage. I recommend not-so-big 32MB since this one can not be used as a MP3 player.
What I don't like:
1) clip-on cover sucks, fall off too often, why Sony can not give us one come with Sony T-series?
2) lack of better font support to take full advantage of the great hi-res screen;
3) lack of lock mechanism for MemoryStick, I often accidently knock it out, although no harm to Palm OS at all.
4) a bit heavier than what I like, a form factor like T615 will be perfect (T615 is expensive and its buttons are too bad). In fact size and price are my main objections to Pocket PC devices.
5) lack of accessaries, I lost my stylus, Guess what? I can not find a replacement form local stores. Since Sony is relatively a newcomer comparing with Palm and HandSpring, it surely will be better over time;
6) don't bother with palm Desktop software come with Sony, it is slow and has problems with Avantgo, and can not sync with Netscape Mail. Download version 4.0.1 from palm instead.

A pretty good PDA.......2002-01-12
What I like:
1. The sharp color screen.
2. The smaller, thinner size.
3. Memory stick capability.
4. It is faster.
What I don't like:
1. Placement of the power button directly below the up/down button.
2. Buttons are too small and not as ergonomically friendly as those on the visor.
3. The sync software is terrible. It comes with Intellisync Lite, which is quite inferior to the Chapura PocketMirror that comes with the Visor.
4. I wish they could get together with Handspring and license the slot. I never used my old slot, but you never know when it might be useful.
I wouldn't have bought this if I had to pay full price for this. However, I couldn't pass up the beautiful shape and sharp color screen for the low 3rd party price I got.
