Product Description
The Samsung SyncMaster 240T is the world's first 24-inch analog/digital LCD monitor. This beautifully designed HDTV-ready display offers the highest quality images possible with dual analog and digital source input. Its picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture capabilities allow users to enjoy full-size viewing from two different input sources simultaneously. The 240T offers an ultra high contrast ratio of 500: 1, 1920 x 1200 active native resolution, pixel pitch of 0.270mm H/V, Xtrawide 170?/170? viewing angle, Analog/Digital/S-Video video input, and a scanning frequency of 30-93 kHz horizontal and 56-85 Hz vertical. The 240T delivers the latest in multimedia technology with direct interface capabilities for VCR, DVD, digital satellite receivers, camcorders or any other video device. Well suited for executing finely detailed CAD/CAM drawings or creating extensively layered graphics, the 240T is the perfect tool for any high-end corporate setting. The monitor also offers a remote controller, 64x digital zoom, one-button auto adjustment, a wide array of OSD controls and optional stereo speakers.Amazon.com
The Samsung 240T's 24-inch screen offers razor-sharp images and an impressive native resolution of 1,920 x 1,200, making it well-suited to either professional or home theater uses. Image quality benefits from a high (500:1) contrast ratio, peak brightness of 270 candles/square meter, and wide, 170-degree viewing angles horizontally and vertically. Analog RGB and DVI digital link inputs let you plug in everything from your PC or Macintosh computer to home-entertainment devices like a DVD player, DTV receiver, game console, digital satellite system, or camcorder.
Samsung's patented PVA (patterned, multiple-domain vertical alignment) technology is at the heart of the 240T. PVA benefits include high contrast (nearly perfect vertical alignment of the liquid crystal produces a completely black state, yielding a very high contrast ratio), fast--25 ms--response (vertical alignment of the liquid crystal results in extremely fast response to voltage), and high transmittance (extremely narrow domain boundaries increase cell aperture ratios, allowing more light to pass and increasing brightness).
Video features include picture in picture and Samsung's exclusive "Picture by Picture" feature that lets you view two inputs side by side at full resolution. You can run the 240T for five years solid (about 50,000 hours), then change the lamp yourself--and you're set for another five years.
What's in the BoxCustomer Reviews:
The last monitor you will ever need.......2004-03-27
Awe inspiring PC and HDTV home theater combo.......2003-05-13
Contrary to both Samsung's manual and Radeon's manuals, but in agreement with comments on countless mailing lists, both the Radeon 9000 and 9700 Pro models with 128MB memory were able to drive this monitor at full 1920x1200 resolution with DVI. The difference between DVI inputs and VGA inputs is night and day, with DVI being far superior in terms of sharpness. The S-video inputs are quite reasonable, and TV images look as good on this monitor as on other analog TVs, and provide a means to play VHS from from VCR without needing S-video inputs on my computer. But DVDs look much much better when played on the computer's DVD player through a decent progressive software decoder like WinDVD coupled with the graphics card's built-in rescaler. In fact, it's one of the best DVD images I've ever seen. To get the best sound, I take the computer's S/PDIF digital output directly into my AV receiver, thus bypassing my computer's sound card entirely.
All in all, this is a great monitor for home theater and one of only a handful of monitors that run 1920x1200 resolution. Others include Sony's PremierePro P232 23"; Samsung's replacement for this model, the 241MP 24", which also has component video input; and the Apple Cinema HD 23", which requires a connector dongle for DVI input and has no hardware control or S-video input. The Samsung 210T is an identical monitor feature-wise, and uses the same panel technology and same size pixels, but provides a conventional 1600x1200 aspect ratio. Note that it does not come with the speakers, but then I wanted to use my serious home theater speakers anyway.
