The Compaq Evo Thin Client T30 is a thin client that connects over a network to a server running with or without Citrix MetaFrame software. This combination of client and server solution is referred to as Thin Client Server Computing. The thin client is but one part of that overall solution. A thin client only processes keyboard and mouse input and screen output, leaving all application processing and storage to the servers.Unlike a traditional PC with high-speed processors and data storage, these terminals are optimized to act solely as "windows" to the server where users' applications and data reside. Instead of applications running on individual PCs, all applications are run from a single server or group of servers, greatly simplifying the administration and support needed to run an IT department. While some knowledge workers truly need the processing power of a PC (such as engineers, designers, or financial traders), most workers perform task-oriented, transactional functions in environments, which would be ideal for the Compaq Evo Thin Client T30.
