Panasonic DMR-ES30VS DVD Recorder
Amazon.com Product Description
For ultimate recording and playback quality and versatility, look no further than Panasonic's DMR-ES30VS combination DVD player/recorder and 4-head/hi-fi VCR. The space-saving combo device offers the flexibility of recording on both DVD-RAM--ideal for instant chapter access and for multiple rerecordings--as well as DVD-R, DVD+R, and rewritable DVD-RW for full flexibility in recording and sharing your favorite programs (you can tailor your choice of format to the playback capabilities of your friends and family).

With the DMR-ES30VS you can digitally record superb picture and sound--up to 8 hours on a single-sided DVD-RAM or DVD-R/RW or DVD+R, thanks to Panasonic's original VBR (variable bit rate) technology. (Rewriteable DVD-RAM discs can be rewritten over 100,000 times and offer 4.7 to 9.6 gigabytes per disc.)

The company's Time Slip feature lets the DVD recorder be used like a digital video recorder, or DVR. You sit down to watch this week's episode of your favorite show and realize that you never got around to watching your recording of last week's episode. Not a problem with Panasonic's Time Slip feature, which includes the ability to perform simultaneous recording and playback. Select this week's episode in the electronic program guide (EPG), start recording, and as it records you can watch your recording of last week's episode.

In addition to recording new video content, the DMR-ES30VS lets you transfer favorite VHS recordings to durable, space-saving discs. The Direct Navigator instantly accesses recorded material from an onscreen menu that lists recording dates, times, channels, and titles. Finding and viewing recorded material are simple, because there's no need to search, fast-forward, or rewind. And, with one-touch 2-way transferring, you can dub a VHS tape to DVD by pushing a single button or vice-versa (so long as the disc isn't copy protected).

One-touch DVD recording will save your favorite programs from accidental overwriting by automatically scanning the disc for blank space before starting the recording process. No more worries that your favorite sitcom's season finale will be overwritten by a family member's Sunday fishing show.

As a player, the DMR-ES30VS offers a progressive-scan video output for optimal picture quality when viewing a DVD movie on a high-definition or HD-ready TV. Progressive scanning doubles the scan lines of an interlaced signal by scanning all 525 lines in 1/60 of a second for each full pass. The higher-density video signal creates film-like DVD images with rich detail, extraordinary depth of field, and precise color reproduction.

VCR features include quasi S-VHS playback (plays Super-VHS tapes at standard-VHS resolution), Jet Search super-fast playback scanning, Jet Rewind, repeat play, and long-recording ability (10 hours to 1 VHS T-180 cassette). VCR Plus+ simplifies advanced programming. You can also record a TV program to VHS while you play or record something else on DVD.

What's in the Box
DVD/VCR combo, a remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, an AC power cord, a coaxial RF video cable, a stereo analog audio/composite-video cable (RCA), and a warranty/registration card.

5 out of 5 stars Oldie but Goodie.......2005-01-06

This was my first PDA, bought via E-bay (sorry for the Ad, but that's the truth)in 2003. It was great for the things I used it (freshman at the University, so I had to make many essays), although it only had "Note taker" for that. The Excel sheets had to be done in another program (SpreadCE, great software). The problem was that there wasn't enough memory in the device to store many programs or files, but once I bought a CompactFlash card (first of 128 mb, after that of 512 mb) this wasn't a problem anymore! Another problem was the software made for the device. There isn't much, so you don't have as much options as with other PDAs, but the one that exists is (mostly) great, although many times you'll have to obtain it via "unorthodox" methods, because the companies that created them don't exist anymore, or don't handle them.
Why did I stopped using this wonderful item? Because the port that connects it with everything else (craddle, modem, keyboard) broke appart from the mainboard (??) of the PDA. After 2 months in repair, and the technicians clueless of how to make it work again, I decided that it was time to move on... it indeed was like loosing a true friend.
I'm using now a E-125 (of Casio) and many of the features of the older E-100 are missed, like the natural background image (I had to download a program to use my old images in the E-125 as backgrounds again), or the simplicity of the JOT reader (the E-125's JOT reader is far more complicated than the E-100's one), but anyway, it's something alike, but with more software available.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Neato.......2003-10-05

I bought my cassie when it first came out years ago, when it was $500, plus accessories! I still don't have a desire to get anything more. There is one exception. If I ever need to go wireless, and although I could add the necessary accessories to my cassie, I might rather buy a new, smaller PDA with built in communications capabilities, like the Blackberry, or even one of those PDA phones.

5 out of 5 stars casio e-100 palm size pc.......2003-02-05

I started out with a Palm V and thought it was the best ever. Even the green screen didn't put me off I just loved it. It was the first time I could truly say I was organised. Later I bought the Palm 515 and this had colour and was good, but it had no sound so I bought an iPAQ which had sound but felt the loss of the Palm OS was tragic (now using the far less stable Windows CE) still I continued and enjoyed the sound and movie playing on my iPAQ. Then I bought the E-100 second hand (the price was good so I grabbed it), and found that I like it best of all, mostly because of the TFT screen with more colours than the iPAQ, the feel of it in the hand, and built in expansion taking compact flash cards which means unlimited memory. Compact flash is less expensive and more common than the MMC (compact flash 2)cards used by Palm. These expansion packs you have to buy as an extra with the iPAQ.
Programs are hard to get for the E-100 but when you get one that works it is good. The programs look good and feel good to use. The battery lasts all day in the E-100 even though it was already used before I bought it, but iPAQ only lasts a few hours and this unit was brand new. In my opinion the E-100 is a brilliant PDA and I would like to see later incarnations of this unit. I still have two iPAQs but really love my E-100. I hope this is of some help to you.

5 out of 5 stars best palm-size color pc money can buy.......2002-09-28

I have an e-105, similar features...functionality is perfect but it is a little bit "thick" when compare with other brands...

4 out of 5 stars Great mp3/vid player but NOT a good game system........2002-05-10

The cassiopeia E-100 is a great mp3 and video player! (very easy to use the win CE player) All you have to do is go to casio's website and look up E-100 and they have a link to Microsoft's download page for the winmedia player for CE.
After that you just install the player on the cassiopeia; drag and drop all the mp3s you want in to the /my documents folder and when you run out of space on your E-100 just get a compact flash card (DIRT CHEAP on EbAy) and drop it into the expansion slot and your ready to go! The only
problem with it is there is ALOT of problems loading games on it
so if your looking for a "gameboy/pda" get a Palm IIIc (I also have a Palm IIIc and that is a GREAT game system but that cant play mp3s)
