Amazon.com Product Description
GoVideo's VR5940 dual-deck DVD recorder/player and VCR lets you record your favorite television shows and treasured home videos not merely to VHS videocassette, but to high-quality, long-lasting write-once and rewriteable DVDs, too. The VR5940 grants the freedom to use all available DVD recording formats: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW.

For camcorder owners, transferring home movies to DVD has never been easier. A convenient front-panel IEEE 1394 DV input accepts feeds from digital camcorders for easy recording to DVD and for playback on your TV. You can choose whether to record programs to tape or disc, and the recorder's built-in NTSC TV tuner and onscreen user interface permits up to 8 timer recordings over a single month, with 5 recording speeds providing between 1 and 6 hours of content on each DVD disc.

The VR5940 features DoMiNoFX, too: a patented video-processing technology that digitally enhances and refines the picture quality during recording. This results in visibly superior recordings, and a dramatic improvement when recording from noisy source material, such as VHS tapes or weak TV signals. When recording, the unit automatically creates a new disc title every time you start a new recording. You can then add chapters to these recordings manually or have them automatically inserted at five-minute intervals.

DVD-R and DVD+R media use competitive recordable DVD formats, each offering different features and levels of compatibility. DVD-R/RW-formatted discs tend to be more compatible with computers and DVD-Video players, and are generally less expensive. The advantages of DVD+R/RW-formatted discs include potentially faster burn speeds, quicker background formatting, and the ability to stop and resume recording without error--as well as the ability to let you erase specific parts of the disc. Now you can take advantage of both formats with one component.

The VR5940's versatile playback features include progressive-scan DVD video outputs and support MP3, JPEG, and Kodak Picture CDs. A variety of video and audio inputs--including front-panel connections for fast, temporary hookups--grant connection to virtually all televisions and home theater components. Further simplifying your connections, the unit will pass both DVD and VHS signals from any of its video outputs (composite-, component-, and S-video) so you don't have to maintain multiple video feeds between the device and your television unless you're taking advantage of progressive-scanning.

The VR5940 comes with GoVideo's innovative AutoPlay feature, designed to skips DVD ads, trailers, and menus, jumping right to the start of your movie. Simply place the disc in the tray, press the play key, and the movie starts without interruption. Further, an innovative feature called YourDVD automatically searches for your preferences every time you load a DVD. The player will find and select your preferred audio, subtitle, and surround sound settings (if available) so you don't have to wade through menus to set them up yourself.

My DVD, another GoVideo exclusive, simplifies DVD player use by permanently storing the set-up preferences that--on most DVD players--need to be checked or unchecked every time you load a new DVD.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the VR5940's DVD player stands ready to deliver the full playback potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

To help you navigate the transition from VCR to DVD recording, GoVideo's "white-glove customer care" includes free telephone assistance in making your first recording, should you need it.

What's in the Box
DVD player/recorder, a blank recordable DVD-RW disc, a remote control, remote batteries, an RF coaxial audio/video cable (3 feet), a stereo analog audio/composite-video interconnect (3 feet), and a user's manual.

Amazon.com Review

NEC's AccuSync line of monitors is the company's most affordable group of display solutions. Even though the AccuSync 50 is the entry-level 15-inch model, it delivers fine quality at its superlow price. It's ideal for home or cost-conscious business use.

The AccuSync 50 is quite small (only 13.8 inches of viewable screen) but nevertheless supports video modes as high as 1,280 x 1,024 at 66 Hz. The unit is petite, measuring only 14.9 by 14.2 by 15 inches and weighing 31.5 pounds. This makes the AccuSync 50 a workable solution for classrooms, computer labs, or server rooms where both space and budgets are tight.

When we examined the AccuSync 50, we were pleased with its image quality but found practical limits to its daily use. While the monitor worked in all of its rated resolutions, anything over 800 x 600 resulted in undesirably small text (as any 15-inch model would). We found 800 x 600 the most comfortable mode for ordinary Windows use, in terms of both image size and flicker-free operation. The unit we examined also tended to slightly bend images from top to bottom. This distraction may prove a nuisance for users switching between this monitor and a flat-screen model.

The monitor's brightness was superb, and the unit's onscreen menus offered good control over display characteristics like individual color channel level, position, and geometry control. All in all, this little monitor offers fantastic quality for its price. Whether you're purchasing a monitor on a tight budget, or standardizing on a display model for an environment with dozens of inexpensive screens, you won't go wrong with this tike from the established NEC family of monitors. --Stephen W. 4 out of 5 stars Good value.......2001-10-05

I bought this monitor to replace my aging Acer 15" monitor. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a new monitor because I plan to buy a new system in a few months. The NEC is much nicer than my old monitor, with sharp detail and vivid colors. The viewing area is small but I can live with it. I took it out of the box, plugged it into the PC and a power outlet, and here I am.

5 out of 5 stars Great buy!.......2000-07-20

After seeing this monitor in a set-up ... , I decided it was just what I was shopping for. But....the store did not carry NEC. I went to three other stores here in town and could not find a 15-inch NEC - all were 17's. That was Monday, July 17. I came home and ordered from Amazon. The monitor was delivered by standard shipping this morning - July 19! It is all I expected and then some. If you are looking for a 15-inch monitor at a bargain price, this may be your best bet.

3 out of 5 stars Good choice for price conscious shopper.......2000-07-08

I bought this monitor in July 2000 and have now owned it for 3 days. The monitor is compact and relatively lightweight (31 pounds). The image quality seems comparable to the much more expensive 21-inch monitor I have at work. If you don't want to spend much money for a monitor, this seems like a logical choice. In general, NEC is a reputable brand while if you find something any cheaper, you are probably sacrificing manufacturer quality.
