Amazon.com Product Description
Easy to set up and even easier to operate, the GoVideo DV2150 combines a full-featured progressive scan DVD player to handle your movies and music--including MP3 files stored on CD-R/RW--with a four-head hi-fi stereo VCR to play your existing videocassettes and record new programs. The functional blend makes the DV2150 a space-saving wonder, as it offers the footprint of a single unit while ensuring high-quality playback for DVD, DVD-RW, DVD+R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, and VHS formats.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DV2150 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your commercial DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Even without an HD-ready set, users can set the component-video outputs to support interlaced video, which helps minimize line scan and digital artifacts on compatible TVs.

The model's four-head VCR, meanwhile, delivers smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, while the hi-fi sound records and plays back stereo audio tracks. If you route the stereo output to an AV receiver, you can even enjoy four-channel (left, center, right, and monaural surround) Dolby Pro Logic mixes from TV and Dolby-encoded videocassettes. Other convenient VCR features include eight-event, one-year programming; a built-in 181-channel tuner; and auto clock and channel set.

In the DVD audio realm, the DV2150 includes a digital coaxial audio output that connects directly to a full-featured A/V receiver. Once connected, you can listen to enveloping Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel home theater signals through a surround-sound speaker system. If you don't have a surround receiver, you can instead use the two sets of left/right RCA analog audio outputs (one each for the DVD player and VCR) and channel the audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo TVs. The sound is still full bodied in the latter case thanks to the 3D Surround function, which simulates the surround sound experience through a two-speaker setup.

Front-panel audio/video inputs accommodate camcorders and game consoles, while the unit's JPEG picture CD playback lets you watch slideshows of your digital photos. Further connectivity stems from the component, S-video, composite, and RF video outputs, which make the DV2150 compatible with almost any TV. The combo unit even lets you watch a DVD or listen to a CD while recording a TV show, and you can always take advantage of AutoPlay, which bypasses DVD menus (and associated ads and trailers) to take you right to the start of your movies. Additional DVD features include custom bookmarking and a zoom function.

The DV2150 measures 17 by 3.6 by 10 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and a 90-day warranty on labor.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent CD-Burner.......2006-08-16

I have owned this Cd-burner for well over 4 years, it's been through many computers and never failed me, It's worked in windows 2000, xp, 2003, and Kubuntu Linux. Never had trouble with it.

4 out of 5 stars Good inexpensive drive........2004-05-17

Drive has always worked fine for me. No coasters but would be better if it had buffer under-run prevention. Works in all OSes. Best with Roxio Easy CD or Nero. Not the fastest drive but pretty fast. The drive is quite dependable.

2 out of 5 stars Love AND Hate this drive!.......2002-02-17

I bought mine over a year ago. For the first 13 months it was a very good drive. (Guess what... the warranty is 12 months!) I was usually unsuccessful in burning at 8x unless copying a cd. Most often I settled for 4x burning. It worked fine with very few coasters. Now enter the problem... At 13 months it started causing POST failures during bootup. BIOS will only detect about half of the time. The other half of the time I get "Invalid IDE device" messages. When it detects OK, the drive still works fine. After much trouble-shooting, swapping IDE controllers, slaves, masters, etc, and contacting SONY tech support, it became very obvious that this drive is my problem. I still have the drive installed and I'm still using it, however I'm now looking for a replacement. Booting 2-3 times can't be good for the rest of my components, so it's time to make a change. Would I buy another SONY??? Maybe... maybe not.

2 out of 5 stars all burner w/o burn proof are lame.......2002-01-12

if you are in the market for a burner faster than 4x.

save up more money and buy another unit. buy something with some form of burn-proof technology. This burner is 8x max, but i've never successfually make any cd at that speed... the buffer craps out i.e. buffer underrun.

i would look into Lite-On or Plextor.

5 out of 5 stars Worth to buy!!.......2001-12-23

Sony CDRW only takes 5 mins to burn a CDR and 10 mins to finish up the CDRW burning. You can test before burning in order to make sure that you won't waste your CDR disc. You also do not need drivers for Win 98, ME, and 2000 because Microsoft has already included the drivers. Large CDR buffers make the CD burning more stabilize. There is a headphone jack in the front faceplate that you can plug-in your headphone and listen your CD. So convenience!
