In most living rooms multiple electronic components abound, from satellite and cable receiver boxes to gaming consoles to digital video and audio players. But wouldn't it be simpler, not to mention cheaper, if a single box performed all those functions? Samsung N2000 is an enhanced DVD player, CD player, and gaming machine all in one, which packs as many features as possible into one box. As a DVD player, the N2000 offers a plethora of viewing choices for the demanding movie buff. Using the Nuon processor as its core controlling system, the N2000 provides several great on-the-fly video manipulation features including screen panning, 20x zooming, viewing multi-angles, and nine thumbnailed frame-by-frame sampling. The Nuon also adds advanced fast forward and reverse options, allowing users to view scenes in six steps from 2x (with audio) to 32x speeds. The player can also slow frame rates down to three fractional crawling modes. SmartMatrix user Interface display lets you view the video action while monitoring virtually every DVD parameter. The Nuon processor permits the N2000 to support a variety of audio features as well. Functioning as a CD player, the system supports HDCD audio formats and displays music synced to multiple on-screen visual effects scenarios. VirtualLightMachine displays a variety of pulsing shifting color patterns that respond instantly to every musical nuance. The N2000 is supplied with a game pad and full version of Ballistic game software and features NUON Enhanced A/V Processing System. The player also offers a number of features that you won't find on regular DVD players, because they require some additional processing power, which is supplied by the NUON chip. There is a "Screen Fit" function for example, which allows you to fit a widescreen movie to a full screen. Its freeze frame function allows you to adjust an image's gamma, colors, contrast and brightness.

The Action Capture strobe splits fast-moving action scenes into nine consecutive frames that are constantly updated as the video plays. Use the joystick remote to select the exact frame you want. An Angle View display system shows the current angle of multiangle discs in full-screen mode, while additional angles are displayed as thumbnails along the bottom of the screen.

Of course, there is more to Extiva than just video. A Smart Matrix display system lets you view the video action while monitoring virtually every DVD parameter, thanks to the powerful NUON graphics chip with parallel processing. The Virtual Light Machine feature displays a variety of pulsating color patterns that respond instantly to every musical nuance of CDs.

The DVD-N2000 is compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS, and HDCD discs. The player also has a built-in Dolby Digital processor with 5.1-channel outputs, as well as coaxial and optical digital audio outputs.

For Internet fans, an optional modem with integrated Web browser will be offered in the near future to add Internet functionality to the DVD-N2000.

The onscreen display and front-panel buttons let viewers customize more than 20 screen properties, including brightness, contrast and pincushioning. Integrated in the bezel are two three-watt speakers to provide amplified stereo sound for multimedia and web-based applications. It also includes a headphone jack. The Diamond Scan 50M is compatible with IBM, UNIX, Macintosh and Power Macintosh, Windows 95 and Windows 98.
