As other users have commented, this monitor is attractive and its 4 USB ports easily come in handy for all those USB devices on your desk. However, the hard part is getting an HMD-A200 that isn't defective. Before ending up with a fully functional monitor, I went through two brand new HMD-A200's. The first displayed everything in green after the first week and the second would flicker like crazy for no apparent reason. Third time's the charm...

I really liked this monitor when I got it. It looked great and I loved the wide screen on it. I spent 350 on it and was hoping I didn't have to buy a new monitor. Well this monitor only came with a 1 year manufacturer warranty and broke in a year and 3 months... I was really disappointed to spend so much money on a monitor to not even have it last 2 years.
It has a great picture and the vertical lines were fairly noticable but only on a white background. I guess I learned my lesson when buying a monitor with only 1 year warranty and from sony.

I have had my Sony HMD a200 for a few years now and have been pleased by it's performance. In the first year, the 4 usb ports were awesome and made a lot of my gaming friends jealous. But by the end of year one, or in the middle of year 2, all of the ports quit working. Luckily, I had the forsight to have extra ones installed on my case or this could have been bad. Since the warranty is up, there is no way to fix the ports without paying an arm and a leg.
This monitor is good for a person who is an casual gamer or who uses the monitor for microsoft office applications. It does have a good quality picture but occasionally when watching movies or playing games I can see distortions and lines. My next monitor will not be a sony.

A great monitor!.......2004-01-22

I bought this monitor second-hand for my mother, to go with her new computer. Everyone in my family who has seen it has been impressed with it. At first I was worried about the wire shadows, since some users have complained about them, but they are difficult to notice and haven't been an issue. Overall, this is a sturdy (heavy!) and well-built monitor with a very good picture and one of the most stylish cases I've seen. It really looks and feels high-end. Though it may not perform to the standards of the most demanding users, and is NOT easily portable, it's great for anyone who wants a stylish, solid and inexpensive mid-sized flat screen unit.

I got this monitor and was thrilled when I took it out of the box. However, whenever I display a white page, I get a really annoying hum sound. When I return to dark, it goes away. Besides that, it is a nice monitor, but now that I have had it 15 days, the store wouldn't take it back.
