The Sylvania DVL100E is a good intermediate DVD Video/Audio CD player with all basic playback functions including multispeed slow and fast viewing and the ability to output high-resolution component video. In addition to playing DVD-Video discs, it plays DVD-R/RWs and DVD+R/RWs, CD-R/RWs, and MP3 discs.

The DVL100E's key picture-search and convenience functions include frame-by-frame advance; fast scanning at 2x, 8x, 50x, and 100x speeds; slow-motion viewing at 1/2x, 1/8x, and 1/16x speeds; aspect ratio control; black-level shift control; and parental lock. It supports multiple-language subtitles and audio tracks as well as multiple camera angles, with DVD discs that provide these options.

For use with a standard two-speaker stereo television, the DVL100E uses virtual surround-sound technology to create a wider, fuller sound space using only the two speakers. However, when connected to a home theater system or other device capable of decoding Dolby Digital sound, the DVL100E brings out the full extent of its surround-sound capabilities.

The player includes component video, S-video, and composite-video outputs. It also provides coaxial Dolby Digital audio output as well as standard RCA stereo analog audio outputs. It comes with a full-featured remote control.
