Product Description
You're happy with your widescreen HDTV. Did you know that the discs available for rent and sales aren't really HD compatible? Even if they were, you wouldn't appreciate the benefits from your current DVD player that's designed to play discs at up to 480p resolution. HDTV is 720p - 1080i - 1080p display capable. Toshiba's HD-XA1 is the first player to play HD-DVD media and that's really important for widescreen HDTV owners. Virtually all the DVD videos sold or rented are capable of displaying 480p resolution. An HD-DVD is capable of displaying 720p and 1080i High Definition resolutions resulting in even better images than you've ever seen on your TV. On HDTV models that are capable of HDTV display, the HD-AX1 can deliver 1080p interpolation when connected through the HDMI port. It will also play current DVD and CD at their maximum output but only HD-DVD will bring you the high-definition that you're looking for. HD-DVD is the next generation format and it's here. 5 out of 5 stars Traded in My 17" CRT.......2002-01-06

First of all, I can't believe I concur with the magazine reviews, as I usually find the user reviews on Amazon and other places to be more helpful. I thought I wanted a 17" LCD but wanted to look at them in person. It's sad, but Gateway is the only store in NY where you can actually try out the monitors using real computers, software and mice. Anyhow, my visit to Gateway talked me out a larger monitor (they have 15" and 18"). The larger one was "huge." And you are told these things look better at maximum pixels so the big one was set for 1280 x 1024. The little tiny icons on that big screen were hilarious. I tried a game of free cell and the cards were so tiny and spread out, it was weird. The bar on top on the AOL screen was also almost too small to see. I felt like I was at the movies. The 15" was much more user friendly and seemed sharper. I finally ordered a 15" but a KDS, based on reviews and price. I love it! It's clear and sharp. The 15" screen seems hardly smaller than my 17" Dell CRT. Nothing fuzzy about this screen. It's also very slim and good looking (okay, it's not Heather Locklear, but you get the idea). It does come with an annoying sticker across the top that took me 20 minutes to remove with a glue-remover (but be careful what you use on the actual screen...read the instructions before cleaning). This one is a winner!

5 out of 5 stars A great encore........2001-08-14

I bought my first KDS 2 years ago and a second one a few months later. Overall I had been quite pleased with the performance. However, when one of them stopped working a few months ago, I figured it was new monitor time. I called KDS and told them I hadn't registered the monitor at the time of purchase. They asked me for the serial number and within 1 minute informed me that they would be glad to replace it for free, as the date of manufacture was less than 3 years old. In a week, I had a brand new monitor! Last month, I returned the favor by buying a few of the new KDS-15 S-3Fs for the office. They are even nicer than the first generation I bought. Three cheers for good products with great customer service!!
