Amazon.com Product Description
Samsung's DVD-HR720 incorporates a gigantic 120 GB hard drive as well as a DVD recorder that records in DVD-RAM and DVD-R/RW formats. This enables you to record programming onto the hard drive, then easily archive it onto DVDs--or vice versa. With up to 4x speed, two-way copying between hard drive and DVD, two hours of content can be transferred in just an hour. The DVD-HR720 also integrates the latest electronic program guide from TV Guide, making the recording of favorite programs onto the hard drive as simple as surfing and clicking. Playback and recording for both DVDs and the built-in hard drive are completely independent. For example you can record a broadcast program to either a recordable DVD or the hard drive, while watching another recording you already made on the same DVD or on the hard drive. You can set your recorder to one of four different recording speeds, each varying in recording quality and length. EP (6 or 8 hour) mode yields the most recording time, LP and SP modes provide less recording time with higher quality recording (between 2 and 4 hours), and XP mode gives you the highest quality recording. If FR mode is selected, the video quality is adjusted automatically so that all video for the scheduled time can be recorded onto the free disc space.
In addition to playing DVD movies and recorded DVD-RAM and DVD-R/RW discs, the DVD-HR720 offers playback of CD audio and CD-R/RW discs with MP3, WMA, and JPEG digital content. You can also easily connect a digital video camcorder to the unit, via either the front panel composite AV connection or the Firewire (IEEE 1394) port--perfect for creating a disc directly from your video without first having to download to a PC.
The DVD-HR720 provides optical and coaxial digital audio outputs for Dolby Digital and DTS multi-channel surround sound, as well as a selectable progressive-scan mode for smoother video with HD-compatible TVs via the component video output. It also offers the following video connections:
- Composite AV (RCA) In: 2
- Composite AV (RCA) Out: 1
- S-Video In: 1
- S-Video Out: 1
- RF: input and output (tuner pass through only)
Note: This DVD player is designed to play "Region 1" pre-recorded DVDs only, and internal dubbing of copy-protected DVDs is not possible.

Sprint PCS is the best wireless service!.......2004-09-27
A year or so ago I switched from Sprint to T-Mobile, because I was offered a free phone and three months of free service. I ended up regretting that decision. T-Mobile's coverage is small compared to other companies. Their GSM network while having the advantage of being able to swap phones pretty easily due to their use of a SIM card, does not provide as good of call quality, privacy, signal strength, ect as Sprints CDMA. CDMA being the best wireless network technology, do a search on Google and read why. And soon the advantage of GSM's SIM card will not only be a GSM advantage. CDMA carriers are working on phasing in R-UIM cards. So CDMA user will also be able to swap out a card from one phone and put it into another.
Also, T-Mobile had a roaming partner in Cingular, but since Cingular is buying AT&T wireless, that contract has been canceled. So this just adds another fault to T-Mobiles service. While on the other hand, Sprint PCS has a roaming agreement with most of the wireless carriers, so their coverage spans almost the whole USA. Plus if you pay the extra $5.00 a month for Sprints Free & clean plan, you get to roam for free. Just has long as less then half of your minutes are roaming. No other wireless carrier gives you that. Except for T-Mobile, but as I mentioned their roaming partners list is becoming less and less. Plus Sprint PCS uses GPS to track 911 phone calls, which is something most of the other carriers are unable, or unwilling to do at this time. So that is a huge plus for anyone that travels a lot and does not always know where they are exactly (Which is me most of the time).
I recently paid the $200 dollar early termination fee so I can end my current T-Mobile contract, so I can get back with the wireless service that I had NO problems with, Sprint PCS. It is not worth any of the gifts and deals that T-Mobile offered me to stay with them. Sprint PCS is the wireless service that I will stay with for the rest of my life.
Lastly, before you lock into any wireless contract, research the companies first. Some wireless carriers might seem like they are offering you great deals, but their is always a catch. I only recommend Sprint PCS, because I have used other carriers and have found Sprint to be the best one for me. But just make sure you investigate the wireless companies first, so you don't end up paying the $200 early termination fee to end a contract. That $200 dollar fee is so wrong to charge. Why should people have to pay money to end a contract with a company whose service has gone down hill?!
For me, that $200 dollars could have been used to buy a new big screen TV or an XBOX!! I hate you T-Mobile!!
Know the facts before you complain.......2003-01-08
This is a great cellular alternative, the T-Mobile prepaid system works great. True it is more expensive than a contractual cellular plan, but some people it is a more affordable option than paying a large deposit. True, T-Mobile no longer accepts credit cards over the phone to refill your minutes, but that is only due to the large amount of credit card fraud being committed. This is to protect you not to inconvenience you. As far as having to travel to a T-Mobile dealer to purchase cards, that is just misinformation. You can purchase the cards at [local store], and even at some gas stations. Just look around. When I ran out of minutes and needed to make an emergency call, customer care was more than understanding and put a free [$$] credit on my prepaid account to help me out. 20 free minutes when I only needed a 3 minute phone call. With free long distance and roaming, this plan suits just about anyone.
no longer a convenient alternative.......2001-12-18
When I signed up for the prepaid VoiceStream phone, I compared their rates with Verizon(already had one of their phones) and VoiceStream charged half of what they did. Also, Verizon's customer service had left something to be desired. Having 60 days to use minutes unless purchasing a nominal amount to keep remaining minutes was not inconvenient to me because i could make the payments by CC over the phone... then. VoiceStream has discontinued taking payments over the phone, you have to go to an authorized dealer. For me this is a 45 mile trip to the next town. NOT convenient. The voicemail does not work, the phone(Motorola Timeport) buttons are squishy and sometimes I don't hear a tone indicating that the number I dialed "registered", their tollfree number led me through a maze of a directory that led me to a message that told me to call the tollfree number that I had originally dialed(!)... are you getting the picture? I consider this a ...mistake. I'm going to try AT&T. Enough already.
Good Enough.......2001-11-29
No prepaid will be as good as a cellular service with a plan. Yes, airtime is more expensive, but the pay-as-you-go system allows you to budget what you want to spend for wireless. No commitments too. Besides, this is GSM (Global Standard for Mobile Communications) which is what most of the world uses. The thing is VoiceStream connection is clear and I'm able to text messages back and forth with a friend in CA who has a Cingular GSM phone. In order to slow down the cost of using prepaid, try to use the text messaging feature (which Europeans and Asians have become very adept at doing) if you are getting in touch with other VoiceStream or Cingular users.
VoiceStream EasySpeak serves my needs and for that it gets at least 3 stars.:-)
