Product Description
Leave it to Konica Minolta to meet the niche for a digital-camera user who prefers a wide range optical zoom for superior imaging from objects near and far. This incredible 12x optical zoom delivers a focal range equivalent to a 35-420mm range on a 35mm camera lens. Combined with another 4x digital-zoom magnification, images can be amplified to appear as if they were shot with a 1680mm lens (35mm equivalent). The Z6 employs a high-performance lens system that supports CCDs with 6 million effective pixels for fine details. The optical lens system consists of 13 elements in 10 groups and includes two AD (anomalous dispersion) glass lenses and two aspheric elements, a construction that adds up to sharp, high-quality images. Multi-coating on 14 lens surfaces ensures minimal flaring and ghosting in all zoom ranges. The Z6 can capture still pictures as well as VGA grade video movie images.

The Z6 incorporates Anti Shake technology to assure sharp pictures. Anti-Shake compensates to minimize the effect of camera shake, allowing photographers to shoot with shutter speeds four to eight times longer (2-3 stops) than on cameras without an Anti-Shake function. The Z6 can correct shaking without increasing shutter speed or raising ISO sensitivity, factors that increase image noise. The CCD-shift method doesn't require extra correction lenses like optical anti-shake systems, so the body remains compact and light. The Anti-Shake system is effective in correcting both the fine movement of pressing the shutter-release button and the larger and slower movements of the user's body.

It takes movies in VGA size (640x480) at 30 frames per second for smooth video with sound rivaling TV images. Users can also choose from other movie image sizes. The Anti-Shake function also works with the movie function to give shake-free telephoto movies. The XR (Extended Recording) Movie function lets users record movie clips onto the SD memory

Finally, a phone that's fun and simple for kids, but also offers the safety and peace of mind that parents want. With fun lights and graphics, plus a kid-friendly design, the Firefly makes a great little sidekick for all your child's adventures. <small><b>Take a closer look at the Firefly's functions.</b></small></td></tr></table> <B>Design</B>
As far as cell phones go, it doesn't get much simpler than the Firefly. The small, egg-shaped device weighs just over 2 ounces and features a small monochrome screen and an internal antenna. Below the screen, there's no dialpad, just call send and end keys, a phone book key, and two shortcut dialing keys (also known as the Mom and Dad keys) that can be set to call parents at a single button press. Volume control keys are provided on the right side of the phone, and there's also a "fireworks" button here, which triggers the Firefly's fun lights. And to keep the fun factor high, the Firefly accepts a number of colored shells. Finally, a button on the right side of the phone serves as an emergency call button.

<B>Calling Features</B>
Because the Firefly is geared for kids in the 8-12 age range, simplicity is the name of the game. As mentioned, the phone makes it easy for kids to call Mom and Dad at the touch of a button. And for safety, the Firefly allows parents to strictly control all incoming and outgoing calls. Parents can preprogram a list of up to 20 approved numbers kids can call. Parents can also choose to block all incoming calls not on the list. These parental settings are protected by a code, so once the Firefly's phonebook is programmed, it cannot be changed (unless the code is entered). To quickly dial 911, a child can hold down the emergency call button for three seconds, then hit the send key. The Firefly also features an easy-to-use call waiting system that makes it a snap for kids to answer a call from Grandma while they're on the line with Dad. And last but not least, there's a missed call indicator and list.

<B>Just for Fun</B>
As mentioned, the Firefly will put on a light show at the press of a button. Lights are also displayed when making and receiving calls, during standby, and when the phone is charging. Kids can also choose from 12 ring tones, 5 screen animations, and 7 LCD screen backlight colors.

<B>Vital Statistics</B>
The Firefly weighs 2.12 ounces and measures 3.46 by 1.75 by 0.79 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 6 hours of digital talk time and up to 205 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/1900 MHz GSM frequencies. The phone comes with a one-year limited warranty.

<b>What's in the Box</b>
Firefly phone, 30 Firefly minutes, travel charger, backpack clip, and user's manual for parents and children.

5 out of 5 stars Maybe if most read the fine print then youd know about the phone.......2007-06-10

If you read all the fine print and info you would see about the fact of using the phone or loosing the number...With a prepaid phone you are renting the number so you have to buy the prepaid amount..Frankly having the minutes last 3 months is a better deal than most prepaids that expire in 1 or 2 months..Unlike non prepaid deals if you stop using the phone the company stops making money and lets face it all companies have to make money. If they let you keep the number active after not using it for a while they loose money..
Also if you go with the Firefly company and read the info youd know they are a small company so if you use their service then you are limited to their cell towers and they dont have many as of now..
But you could for example use your own carrier..Pop in their Sim card into the phone should get it working..
With Cingular its the best since Cingular to Cingular calls are free and with the rollover minutes in a family plan there are usually more than enough minutes. Check to see if your carrier can get you just a sim card for this phone. Most can..<They just wont want to admit it> Plus you can always use the Sim card of a prepaid phone that isnt on the Firefly network.
Also to the Kids who hate this phone..Not all kids are responsible. Unfortunatly saying you are doesnt make yout so. It isnt an embarrasement. If you pay for the phone and the minutes then have the plan and features you want but if its the parent..Well lets face it you arent going to die without a regular cell phone..This little one does dial 911 and parents plus 20 other numbers in it..
Yeah no camera, no text messaging, no games..But hey show your parent your responsible..Use it..Then graduate to a prepaid regular phone..IF you do well there then maybe you can go on your parents plan..Course you do need to keep in mind that if you start abusing the minutes they can just pop your Sim card into the Firefly phone and your back to a plain old phone with the numbers your parents deam okay to call..
And parent your kids arent going to be social outcasts with this phone..They will tell you so cause most teenagers now a days seem to think its a right to have a cell phone..They think its okay to make calls, download ringtones, do the instant messaging and pictures and not care what it costs..If your allowing your child to do this then who is really the child and who is the parent?? They are using Guilt to get what they want. You want to bet they will adjust just fine..
IF your teen is responsible..Then great and congrats on doing a good job. But if not maybe its time to consider putting some restraints in place...
For emergencies this phone is great. For keeping your kids from racking up charges its great..For responsible Teens Then its not so great since your telling em you dont trust em. <Well they are kids so you cant ever trust em 100 percent>..
So make sure you got all the facts before you purchase the phone. I will say several parents have used this phone to teach kids to be responsible with their minutes and it sitting in a drawer waiting to have the kids Sim card put back in it if they become irresponsible is a great way to get em to stay responsible..

1 out of 5 stars A work of Junk!!!.......2007-05-29

Hi I am not a kid, I just don't want to use my real name.
I got this for my daughter's B-day! She was VERY disappointed. The costumer service stinks. When I called them they kept on hanging up and they would not answer my questions.I am very mad and upset at this company, just think how many innocent little kids had to go through this unreasonable process. They should be sued.

1 out of 5 stars FIREFLY PHONE DISCONNECTED WITHOUT NOTICE.......2007-05-06

To Whom It May Concern at Firefly:

I'm VERY dissatisfied with our Firefly phone - and here's why . . .

My husband and I wanted to get my daughter an "emergency" phone that she could use for emergencies. After looking over various cellphones, we purchased a Firefly phone.

We activated the phone for her - and told her that she wasn't to call friends with it but it was to be used in case of emergencies - in case she needed to call me or her mom for help. After programming in a bunch of family numbers (me, my husband, Grandma, etc.) we charged it and put it in her backpack and told her to keep it charged. She did just that, and charged it and kept it handy.

I recently found out that the phone had been disconnected! When I called, I was told that I had to continue to buy minutes every 90 days or the phone would be disconnected with no warning.

On May 5, 2007, I called and spoke with a Firefly supervisor representative who told me that I would have to buy a $25 SIM card and that the old one had to be replaced, which means we now will get a new phone number. I was also that there is NO PROVISION to call or email or notify ANYONE on the account in ANY WAY that a phone number is going to be disconnected - EVEN THOUGH THIS INFORMATION IS COLLECTED BY FIREFLY AT THE TIME OF PHONE ACTIVATION. It would have taken one minute for them to notify us.

I am not going to pay $25 for a new sim card. I am going to go to another company that has professional customer service.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest phone for me!.......2007-03-29

I think the phone is great! I can stay in touch with my family and it's easy. It fits in my backpack phone holder so it is always near me. It's great to be connected with my family and it's cingular what my mom and dad have!

2 out of 5 stars Firefly not all that great.......2007-02-12

I bought this phone for my 7-year old just to have for basic family communication. The features and size would be fine, except the voice quality is TERRIBLE. It's pretty much impossible to communicate. And this awful voice quality is true even when the reception appears to be good. Fortunately, we bought this phone at Target and they have agreed to take it back; if we had bought it directly from FIrefly they don't take it back once it's been activated. We're now looking at something else. It's a shame because the features are great.
