The player offers a 12-bit, 54 MHz video digital-to-analog converter (DAC); high-end Burr-Brown 24-bit, 192-kHz audio DACs; and progressive-scan video outputs with acclaimed DCDi processing by Faroudja. The carousel changer plays everything from DVD-Video media to video-mode DVD-R/RW and audio CD, CD-R/RW, as well as CDs bearing MP3 and WMA audio files and JPEG images. Kodak Picture CD offers even greater viewing flexibility, and there's even a 2 MB memory buffer to decrease layer-change pauses or pickup dropouts during DVD playback.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVM-715S stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

The DVM-715S also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; reverse 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output (Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. The digital-audio output is configurable for 24-bit, 96 kHz PCM passthrough to compatible receivers and stand-alone DACs.

Other features include black-level control, picture zoom, discrete remote power on/off control, and remote in/out ports for simplified use with other Denon components.

Unreliable.......2007-01-17

I've had this product for a few weeks now. It tends to lock up every day or so and needs to be rebooted which means the ftp access is worthless when I'm not home to reboot it.

Died 3 days after the 30 day warrantly........2006-07-30

I had several problems from the get go with this product. I originally thought it was user error, but after the hard drive died just 3 days after the 30 day warranty, I suspect it was failing all along.

I had a lot of trouble trying to see the hard drive initially on my network. Once I was finally able to see it and connect to it, it would appear at random and often freeze in the middle of reading and writing data to it.

Thank goodness for Amazon's customer service. They took the product back even though it was after their 30 day return policy.

Just the product I been looking for.......2006-01-11

I was a bit skeptical when I first order this product not knowing much what it can do. Now I am very excited to use it. I just finish hooking it up in my house. When I plug in the LAN connection, it shows up right away on my computer. Now I hook it up to our home router, my whole family use it now to store photos, files that we can all access, no more copying files back and forth, emailing files to each other.
