Amazon.com Product Description
Toshiba offers enhanced digital technology for a minimum price with its high-end SD4700 progressive-scan DVD player. Capable of DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, CD, MP3, CD-R/RW and DVD-R playback, this player is great for movies, music, and DVD transfers of your home movies.

A 10-bit, high-sampling 54 MHz video digital-to-analog converter quickly and accurately reproduces video for high-quality pictures, abetted by Toshiba's top-of-the-line Super ColorStream Pro progressive-scan component-video output with Cinema Mode (3:2 pulldown), not to mention the company's Super Anti-alias Filter and 8:8:8 processing. The player offers parallel video outputs (interlaced) for serving multiple rooms, and a distinguished 540 lines of horizontal resolution.

Likewise, a 24-bit, 192 kHz audio digital-to-analog converter runs at twice the frequency of conventional DVD player audio DACs to provide superior sound reproduction from DVD-Videos, DVD-Audio discs, and CDs. Optical and coaxial digital-audio outputs facilitate hookup with a surround receiver for either Dolby Digital or DTS decoding, while decoded Dolby Digital sound is also available through the 5.1-channel analog outputs required to appreciate the full resolution of decoded DVD-Audio programs.

Additional features include progressive-scan video, which displays non-interlaced video with compatible TVs for smoother pictures with reduced flicker. Toshiba's Spatializer N-2-2 Virtual Surround Sound system simulates a four-speaker surround system using only two.

The SD4700 offers plenty of playback options as well, including an onscreen menu, strobe display, preview, multiple angles, 4-power zoom, and four scan speeds (up to 100x playback).

1 out of 5 stars Attaching to network issues.......2006-06-06

As mentioned in another review, you can only format with Fat32. Not a real good option for a network storage device.

The USB interface was recognized by the computer however, I could not access this device to set up for network use. I followed the instructions given to find this device and even access via the web interface. I was never able to configure this device. I spent 2 frustrating days attempting to configure it.

Went to the support web site and found very little information regarding this issue. Contacting support turned out to be fruitless.

I returned this device and bought another product which worked flawlessly.

This product is only capable to format a hard drive in FAT32 format. This is neither the standard for the PC nor the Mac. If you have a pure PC or Mac network, I advise getting a NAS that uses the appropriate format.

The FAT32 format only makes sense if you use it as a cross-platform NAS. But even then it is pretty poor, as it requires tight rules for file names. I constantly ran into problems where back-ups got interrupted due to incorrect file names (too long, wrong characters).

I decided to send the product back and try my luck with a different one.

1 out of 5 stars Bad Product!.......2006-03-21

I don't think I have ever been as disappointed in a computer related product as I was with this one. I highly suggest you avoid buying it. Repeated emails to Coolmax's customer support (support@coolmaxusa.com) went unanswered, and for that alone I feel a company doesn't' deserve my business.

The device worked fine through the USB 2.0 connection, but as a network storage device it was horrible. It never reached a data transfer rate above 8 Mbps even though it purports to be 100 Mbps. With that slow of a transfer the device was completely useless to me. I bought it with the intention of centralizing and scheduling/automating backups for all of my family's PCs -- which entail approximately 120 gigs of data that needs to be backed up on a bi-weekly basis. At 8 Mbps the backups would never finish. In fact, at 8 Mbps there isn't much practical use for this product unless you are just planning on saving a few very small files on it. I don't know if this was a defect in the product I purchased, or in the product line itself because, again, their customer support doesn't answer their emails.

To add to the frustration the device looses its name and workgroup every time you reboot it!

I finally had to return this item to Amazon.com for a full refund.
