Nicely slim at just 1.5 inches in height, the progressive scan Lasonic DVD-7990 DVD player offers a wide variety of disc and format playback, 2.1-channel surround sound, selectable region code setting, and compatibility with both PAL and NTSC video color systems. In addition to standard DVD movie and CD audio discs, it's also compatible with DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, (S)VCD, and CD-R/RW discs as well as MP3 audio and JPEG image files. Other features include picture zoom function (400 percent for DVD/VCD, 200 percent for photo files), disc memory function, captions in 32 languages, and parental controls. It offers a Dolby Digital decoder for 2.1-channel surround sound via the coaxial digital audio output. It also offers the following video connections:
Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.
