Outstanding product!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-09-07

I have been looking around for a back-up device for months. I have been backing up using DVDs, but this had grown tiresome. I opted to try the Maxtor one touch III turbo after reading the excellent reviews in PC World/PC Mag. It had the best reviews of any external hard drive that I had seen. This device is everything it's cracked up to be and more. First, it's about the size of a small toaster, so it takes up very little space. Next, it is virtually silent; I can't hear it at all, even when it is backing up data. Also, it came with everything it needed to run, Firewire 400, 800 & USB cable. Lastly, and most importantly, it is so easy to use. To operate it, the Maxtor On Touch II turbo has an on/off switch and the "one touch" button and that's about it. It was out of the box and saving data within 5 minutes. I installed the software on my PC, then Windows XP immediately recognized the drive, formatted it and it was ready to go. I backed up data using the 2 different options provided with the software. First, as a system restore. The Maxtor one-touch manager would restore my system to this point if I needed to do so. Next, I backed files and folders that I selected. These files and folders can be retrieved and restored using Windows explorer/My Computer. Both worked flawlessly. This product has an outstanding price per GB, and is a dream come true for anyone looking to easily back up data from their PC.

be warned, this model number of the maxtor onetouch 3 600 gb version CANNOT do raid 1, only raid 0.

The part number for the raid 1 capable one is G01W006.

Maxtor support:
The intial release of the OneTouch III Turbo 600GB Drive were available with a RAID 0 (Striped) volume.

Later releases of the OneTouch III Turbo 600GB are available with RAID 0/1 capabilities. All OneTouch III Turbo 1TB models are avaible with RAID 0/1 capability.

Part# G01Y006 is RAID-0 only.
