From the Manufacturer
At under two inches in height, this JVC player is as sleek as it is versatile. The XV-NP1SL offers premium-quality progressive-scan video (for use with a high-definition or HD-ready TV) and JVC's custom 1-bit P.E.M. D.D. digital-to-analog audio converter with 192 kHz/24-bit resolution. Beyond its capabilities with optical media, the unit also boasts a memory card slot equipped to read MP3 music and JPEG images from all major memory formats: SD/MMC, SmartMedia, Compact Flash, and Memory Stick.

The XV-NP1SL is optimized for the ultra-high audio sampling frequency of 192 kHz, providing an extra-wide frequency range to realize the benefits of high-spec sources. Its 10-bit, 54 MHz super-high video sampling frequency ensures detailed images and clear, pure colors for DVD movies.

JVC's Digital Direct Progressive Scan Output, quantified as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. High-quality component-video outputs help minimize line scan and digital artifacts on compatible televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs assure compatibility with nearly any set.

A high-resolution onscreen graphical user interface (GUI) allows Windows-like interactive operation with tool bars superimposed onto the TV screen for simple point-and-click operation. Other convenience features include 1.5x playback with sound, 13-step high-quality zoom, and Screen Fill, which zooms in on a DVD image to eliminate letterbox "bars" on the TV screen. JVC's versatile VFP (Video Fine Processor) allows seven parameters of advanced picture adjustment, including gamma, brightness, contrast, color, tint, sharpness, and "Y delay." In addition to two factory presets (normal and cinema) there are two user-selectable memories.

A single set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each coaxial and optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

What's in the Box
DVD player, multi-brand remote control, remote batteries, a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, user's manual, and warranty information.

5 out of 5 stars Plug it and use it! it also looks so cool!.......2007-06-08

I just took it out of the box, plugged it and instantly appeared in my ibook's desktop. The data access is really fast through the firewire and it looks so cool!

5 out of 5 stars Great on Mac, have not tried on Windows yet.......2007-03-10

I tried the Maxtor Mini III because we like our bigger desktop external drive (Maxtor one touch) which works great...but the mini did not do so well...all kinds of problems...so I researched and found this LaCie Rugged to be just what I needed and it is great! Nice design...I like the rubber on the edges of it...grips a table better rather than being slippery metal and sliding off. Fast on the Firewire 800, have not tried the 400 or USB for this yet. I plugged the LaCie into MacBook Pro and it was right there on desktop ready for files to be dragged to it. No install of software, just ready! The 800 firewire cable to it is on the short side so I did accidently drop it already when I went to move my laptop a little bit. The fall was not far and it was on a rug but handled it well. No probs.
Quiet but it does vibrate...if you set it on a tv tray and put your hand on the surface of the tv tray , you can feel quite a vibration...but it must be a good thing...the drive is rotating/spinning well :)

5 out of 5 stars Yup it's rugged.......2007-03-08

I had been trying to figure out what was the best portable hard drive for my Mac. I decided on the LaCie120GB Rugged All-Terrain External Hard Drive with Triple Interface because of the reviews I had read regarding the ease and reliability with a Mac. I am very pleased with this product. My files transfer very fast and it survived a fall to the floor. It is already formated for the Mac, it doesn't need a power supply, just plug and play. It says it also works for Windows PCs.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent product.......2007-02-11

A very speedy, quiet hard drive with good looks, ideal for a professional or small company. The bright orange soft cover makes it stand out. The triple interface helps if you don't have the right port available or the right cable. I started with 1 and ended up buying 4.

1 out of 5 stars did not work.......2007-01-06

This drive has a great aesthetic design, but did not work out of the box when I received it. Amazon delivered promptly as usual, but quality of this product is definitely lacking. Look at the Western Digital... that's what I now have and have had no issues.
