Denon's midrange DVD-1000 supports DVD-Video, video CDs, music CDs, and audio CD-R formats. A double-speed drive with a 4 MB buffer ensures pause-free viewing during layer shifts or rare pickup dropouts. Audio and video quality is maintained through component- and S-video outputs, while an optical digital-audio output passes Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround sound to your compatible receiver.

A 10-bit video digital-to-analog converter reproduces video images with greater detail than conventional processing, resulting in superb picture quality with today's high-performance TVs and large-screen displays. A 24-bit, 96 kHz audio digital-to-analog converter in turn keeps audio quality on par with video, so you'll have an immersive DVD experience.

Playback features include an onscreen display that lets you see the current operating status of the DVD-1000. Various operations and settings are easily changed from the remote controller. Additional features include support for multiple angles, soundtracks, subtitles, playback memory function, energy-saving standby, and auto power off. Repeat, chapter/track programming, and random functions are also provided.

This drive is as close to perfect I have seen yet. USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and 800 allow connection to anything. The included software works wonderfully. It is durable with the distinctive orange rubber which also keeps the drive from sliding around the table. All cables that you ever need are included in the box, a welcome change from other vendors who give either shoddy cables or none at all. LaCie's got a winner here.
My only gripe would be that, without a second FireWire 400 port, it is hard to daisy chain with other FireWire devices. Granted, I only have a single FireWire port on my laptop, but it would be nice to have the daisy-chain ability without buying a FireWire 800 to 400 adapter. If this is not a problem for you, then by all means, buy this drive. If you think this might be a problem, don't rule out this drive yet!
