The affordable AD-2500 from Apex has high-end progressive-scan component-video outputs, built-in MP3, WMA (Windows Media Audio), HDCD decoding, and a dual-laser pickup for compatibility with not only DVD, VCD, SVCD and CD, but also CD-R and CD-RW. What's more, it plays JPEG-encoded picture discs and does double duty as a karaoke machine.

Whether you already have an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the AD-2500 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize line scan and digital artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any TV set. The back panel offers one output each for composite-video, S-video, and component-video.

For sound, two sets of left-right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's optical digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio-video receiver. A 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimal decoding of all disc formats, including HDCD (high-definition compatible digital), a 20-bit encoding method used on many commercial CDs to deliver better sound than is possible through standard CDs. Playback options include AFF (Apex Full-Screen Function), zoom (2x, 4x), frame advance, slow-motion forward and reverse, fast-motion forward, and programmable playback sequencing. Supplied accessories include a composite-video AV cable, an instruction manual, and an infrared remote control.

Excellent Drive For The Price.......2006-01-26

I Purchased this drive at Stapels, because i needed a low-cost DVD Burner. I got a Computer for christmas, upgraded the hard drive, and added this DVD Burner. Right now I only have two drives in my computer, one sitting there, not powered, not connected to my PC, because i removed the pin connector thing. I haven't tried to burn anything with it yet, but it read Nero 6 and the other bundled software fine. But it is REALLY loud. The disc must be going at 500+ RPMs. Sometimes i could hear it, faintly, through a 6-inch-thick wall. But overall it seems like a good drive. If anyone could put up a pic of the back of the drive, showing a stock pin connection setup, it would be appreachated.

WARNING:AS WITH ANY DVD DRIVE,DO NOT REMOVE MASTER/SLAVE PINS CONNECTOR THING, IF THERE ARE TWO DRIVES HOOKED UP TO THE SAME CABLE WITH NO PIN CONNECTORS,THE COMPUTER WILL NOT BOOT.

I got this is ThxGvg Sale for 19.99. I dont know if it is that worth at all also, I tried to burn a Audio CD of a 192Kbps Quality songs, it screwed them all. I thought it was my songs, but re made the cD on my prev ext CD burner, they come grt. but I copied a DVD, came out grt.

Earlier, the IOMAGIC used to be rebagged Benq dw1620. Now BTC. Horrible quality. It's worth spending $10 more and buy either NEC, BENQ, PLEXTOR 740a or atleast you know what you are buying. This is just not worth even spending $20.
