The Basics

Hard Drive: The 60 GB hard drive is average in size when compared to similar business notebooks, and is fine for storing business productivity applications, presentations, and a decent-sized digital library. It's also quite speedy, with this Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive quickening the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0 coupled with a 5400 RPM disk speed.

Processor: The 1.73 GHz Pentium M 740 (Centrino) processor is in the middle of the speed spectrum for this processor class (December 2005). The problem with 60 GB Hard Drive.......2006-04-07

Pay attention to "a kid's review". A 60 GB Hard Drive is not that common, and for a reason. I did a Google search for 'laptop problems 60 gb' and sure enough the hard drive problems occur in many different brands of laptops including Dell Inspiron (one guy on a google forum reported 32 GB in bad sectors) and in Sony too. Since I'm not a heavy multi-media user, I didn't need much storage and my other choice was the Toshiba Satellite M65-S821 17" Notebook PC which is about $400 pricier if you factor in the extra shipping cost. I'm leaning towards the pricier laptop, even though I can hardly afford it and it didn't seem worthwhile to pay that much extra money for the bigger screen.
Toshiba should resolve this problem so that I can have a decent laptop for under $1K, which I feel is a reasonable expectation.

Handy and Solid Machine.......2006-03-16

I have had this computer for a few weeks now - it works very well and has a very impressive screen - it works very well for demanding Dragon Naturally Speaking and enough power to run a bunch of programs at once. I had to call Toshiba service as I had a problem on the first day with the wireless - they had 24 hour service and this impressed me as I dialed at 3am ny time(Try calling Dell at that hour!). One annoyance is the mouse pad - it's slightly sticky and well I have never used a laptop mouse that I enjoyed - buy an external wireless one and everything will be just fine.

All who set 5 stars.... check you harddisk by Windows chkdsk utility! ... Errors with file system ? ... I am twice exchanging new notebooks with this problem... and return it.
