The Acer TravelMate 2423 notebook PC is great choice mobile professionals as well as home users who are looking for superior work and entertainment options at a very affordable price. Weighing just 6 pounds, the TM2423 has a brightly colorful 14.1-inch LCD screen--perfect for presentations and watching DVD movies. In addition to an integrated 54g wireless LAN, this notebook also includes Acer's SignalUp technology--a super-efficient antenna is built into the case, creating an omni-directional sphere that extends signal range and quality. Other hardware features include an 80 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed DDR2 RAM (2 GB max), 1.5 GHz Intel Celeron M processor, combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, and Windows XP Professional.

The Basics

Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is a bit above average in size for notebook PCs, and it's befitting of such an entertainment-centric PC. It offers more than enough capacity for storing documents and productivity software for road warriors. You'll also be able to store a good-sized digital audio library.

Processor: The Intel Celeron M Processor 370 is traditionally designed specifically for mobile computing, but the 370 enables the computer to keep cool even when multitasking. The 1.5 GHz speed resides near the very top of the spectrum for this processor (as of January 200). It also features a 400 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and large 1 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)

Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory (2 x 256 MB, PC-3200, 400 MHz, DDR2) will get you on the road to productivity--though you'll want to add more to the 2 GB capacity (2 x 1 GB) for business productivity and multimedia applications--and it offers a top-of-the-line RAM speed (533 MHz).

CD/DVD Drive: The TM2423 trims down the price with a more standard DVD-ROM and CD-R/RW combo drive, rather than the newer dual-layer, multiformat DVD burner found in other comparable notebooks. However, this optical drive enables you to quickly burn your favorite music mixes to CD (with its 24x write and 24x rewrite speeds) and comfortably watch DVD movies (with its 8x DVD-ROM speed).

Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has an 88-key FineTouch keyboard with five-degree curve, inverted T curser layout, embedded numeric keypad, hotkey controls, 2.5mm minimum key travel, and international language support. The touchpad has a four-way scroll button. </ul> Screen, Graphics and Sound
The 14.1-inch WXGA LCD has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels--perfect for watching movies in their intended 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.
