Amazon.com Product Description
It may be small in size, but Zenith's XBS444 home theater produces cinematic and musical excitement that's larger than life. The system consists of a combination DVD player/VHS player-recorder with an integrated surround receiver and FM tuning, five 2-way satellite speakers (left, center, right and left/right surround), and a 50-watt powered subwoofer to drive home the dramatic low-end frequencies.
Whether your living room is currently home to a high-definition-ready or HDTV or if you're merely thinking of "someday," the XBS444's DVD component stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
The integrated surround receiver decodes DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound and processes stereo and music sources with Dolby Pro Logic II, generating enveloping, 5.1-channel surround from any 2-channel input. You can also choose from a suite of nine DSP (digital signal processing) algorithms to further tailor the sound to your taste or programming preferences.
This system is made to handle music, too: just pop in a CD-R or CD-RW full of MP3 music files and sit back to enjoy up to 10 hours of your favorite digital music.
The XBS444's 4-head VHS design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images. And, with hi-fi sound, the unit records and plays back stereo audio tracks. Its 19-micron heads deliver the clearest possible picture when recording or viewing in EP (extended-play) mode, and a handy one-touch-record button lets you tape programs "on the fly."
With 250 watts total power (40 watts per channel) and a 7-inch driver on the subwoofer, you'll enjoy dynamic, ultra-clear sound. All speakers are ma genetically shielded to prevent image distortion when placed near a television, and a .125-inch headphone jack lets you listen at night or in private. The system includes an FM antennas, and its phase-lock-looped tuner offers 30 memory presets to keep all your favorite FM/AM radio stations within a finger's reach.

good product.......2007-05-06a good DV camcorder! the reason i did not rate it as 5 stars is i don't like its light function. The light is a little bit weak.
Early technology but decent camera.......2007-04-17I don't think the camera is worth the 400 dollars, but it is a decent HARD DRIVE camera nonetheless. One of the major drawbacks is that you need great light sources to have an excelent shot. In addition, the proprietary .mod extension files only play on the given software. Be ready to know how to produce the clips and turn them into a playable mpeg or mpeg2 files if you want to share these files with family and friends. The major advantage is not having to buy all kinds of tapes. This is simply a camera for the the Dad or the soccer Mom who want to have movies of their kids. I would say that if you really want quality pictures, save your hard earned 400 dollars and hold out for an pricier HD camcorder.
Something to remember.......2007-04-13I got this camera about a year ago mainly to film myself throwing discus.. anyways it had worked really well for doing that (discus), but when i used to make a film for a class at school, it was on a rolling tripod and i was rolling it down the hall filming and the tripod got kicked, and now i have to replace the hard drive. Not that JVC should replace it, but it is a point to think of when getting this camera. You would never have that problem with DV or SD. Otherwise it is a great camera for non professional video like families or students.
ordinary.......2007-04-02This is my first camcorder. I purchased it because of my new-born son. The reasons that I chose this one are the 32x optical zoom and hard drive storage. The pixel is not bad,680000,like most other camcorders. It is very small and convenient. About the videos, I do not know how good it is compared to others, such as miniDV. But I am not satisfied with it. Like other reviewers said it is very bad for indoor videos. I tried different set-ups, it improved a bit, but still not good. If you choose night mode, videos actually get worse. The only way to solve this problem is to turn on all of the lights in your room and make a very bright scene(if you have enough lights). The day videos are just fine. I used auto mode. But, sometimes, it is not that "auto". If you shot at the early afternoon, the videos become very bright. I think you should use manual mode to get the good videos if you are kind of familar with camcorders.
I have to say GET THIS!.......2007-03-13This is just plain cool!
