Amazon.com Product Description
Panasonic's DVD-LV50 is a full-featured DVD-CD player compatible with DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs as well as with MP3 CDs. The player offers a built-in widescreen LCD monitor that uses approximately 337,000 pixels for clear DVD images on the go. The 5-inch screen lets you watch movies in the standard 16:9 widescreen format or conventional 4:3 formats such as letterbox and pan-and-scan. The screen's Freestyle design makes it easy to adjust it to many angles to suit a range of viewing positions.

Use normal, full, or zoom mode to adjust the picture size displayed on the LV50's screen to best represent the picture format (standard 4:3, 16:9 widescreen or letterbox) of the software being viewed. Hi-Speed Smooth Scan scans as high as 200x, so a two-hour movie scans forward or backward in merely 40 seconds--and favorite scenes are found in a jiffy.

The LV50's included rechargeable battery fits neatly in the main unit, so the thin, stylish body remains intact when using the battery. The battery holds out for about 2.5 hours of viewing time (with the brightness set to its lowest level) before it has to be recharged. An optical digital-audio output passes DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound for hookup with a surround-decoding audio-video receiver, providing six discrete channels of exhilarating digital audio that deliver the ultimate sound experience. Advanced Surround (V.S.S) simulates surround sound using only the front two speakers, so you can enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1-channel discs without an elaborate home theater system.

Amazon.com Product Description

The easy-to-use Compaq Presario SR1750NX Media Center PC is the complete home PC system that delivers more entertainment choices, and brings them together in one place with easy access from anywhere in the room. With the SR1750NX you can watch, record, and pause live TV programming as well as schedule the PC to record upcoming episodes or entire series. And you can easily burn your home video productions to DVD for friends and family with the dual-layer, multi-format LightScribe DVD/CD burner, which enables you to store up to 8.5 GB of data on a DL disc. This affordable, family-oriented desktop offers room to grow--including available PCI and expansion slots and a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity. This desktop comes with a large 200 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM, 2.2 GHz AMD Sempron 3500+ processor, Lightscribe dual-layer/multi-format DVD drive, and a memory card reader that's compatible with a wide range of formats.

<b>The Basics</b>
<ul>

  • Hard Drive: The 200 GB hard drive (7200 RPM) is average in size compared to other media-centric desktop PCs. It provides a good size for a wide range of software applications and a generously sized digital audio library as well as room enough for editing digital home video.
  • Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 3500+ processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. This 2.2 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2200 MHz and 512 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Cool'n'Quiet Technology that conserves power while also keeping the PC nicely quiet.
  • Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC3200) is a very good start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and gaming software. This desktop has a very good 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (4 x 1 GB).
  • CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the SR1750NX's multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds. It also comes with a second DVD-ROM optical drive, with 16x read speed.

This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art .

  • Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with a Compaq keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections). </ul> <b>Graphics and Sound</b>
Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200 IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3D graphics. It delivers up to 128 MB of video RAM shared with the system RAM. ATI's HyperMemory technology allows the chipset to run in either Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) mode or with dedicated frame buffer memory to enhance graphics performance. It also features an integrated audio card with microphone, line-in, and headphone jacks.

    <b>Connectivity and Expansion Slots</b>
For expansion, the SR1750NX has three PCI slots (two available), one PCI Express slot (available), two 5.25-inch external bays (one available), two external 3.5-inch bays (one available), and one internal 3.5-inch bay (occupied). It comes with a built-in floppy drive and the following external connectors: <ul>

  • 7 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players (3 in front--including 1 in memory card reader--4 in rear)
  • 2 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals (1 in front, 1 in rear)
  • 1 parallel port for connecting older printers and scanners
  • 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 9-in-1 media card reader on the front, compatible with CompactFlash (Type I and II), MicroDrive, SmartMedia, Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital, and XD Picture Card
  • 2 headphone (1 front, 1 rear)
  • 2 microphone (1 front, 1 rear)
  • 2 line-in (1 front, 1 rear) </ul> It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

    <b>Preloaded System and Software</b>
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (Update Rollup 2) is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. The Update Rollup 2 upgrade offers support for the Windows Media Center Extender technology built into XBox 360 game consoles, which lets you access entertainment from your Media Center PC--whether itÕs live and recorded TV and movies, music, photos or Online Spotlight--on any TV in the house.

It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works 8.0 (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), HP Image Zone 5, Symantec Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition (with 60 days of LiveUpdate), Encarta Encyclopedia 2005, Quicken New User Edition 2005, Microsoft Money 2005, Sonic DigitalMedia Plus, Sonic MyDVD Plus, WinDVD 5 Player Basic, Google Toolbar, and PC Doctor.

The included HP Image Zone 5 photo and imaging software makes it easy to organize, edit, share, print, protect, and store your photos and video clips. Organize and find your photos easily by timeline, keywords, and/or location using the unique photo-globe mapping tool. Remove red eye and fix other common problems. Share your photos quickly via e-mails that include thumbnails with links to the full-sized images--without downloading time-consuming attachments.

    <b>Dimensions and Weight</b>
This desktop measures 15.4 x 7.2 x 16.5 inches (HxWxD) and weighs approximately 30 pounds.

    <b>What's in the Box</b>
The Presario SR1750NX desktop PC comes with a power cord, keyboard, and scroller mouse. It is backed by a one-year warranty for parts and labor from date of purchase, one-year technical phone service, and 90 days of software application support.

3 out of 5 stars Good for the price but.........2007-03-23

This isn't bad for the price but I think it should have been better. The ram memory was mis-matched and I've noticed that with some games it will crash on occasion and I think it's because of this. MS office is only trial vs so if you need to write documents your stuck with only notepad. I've not run into to many problems with it other than these minor problems and I'm sure I'll have some when the service warrenty expires. Everything else seems to function as described.

    5 out of 5 stars Compaq Presario.......2007-02-04

I was very pleased with the service from the vendor. The package arrived in a timely manner intact. The computer is everything I wanted it to be.

1 out of 5 stars Cheap is not Better - Buyer Beware!!.......2006-12-23

Okay, it has been 48 hours since I purchased the first one from Best Buy and now I am preparing to return the 3rd one to Circuit City! First one had a broken dvd drive, would not recognize any disk, 2nd one windows would not work, third one has a bad modem. DO NOT BUY! I can't believe how much time and effort I have wasted, not to mention money because of having both stores do the set up and adware removal, only to go through this. In addition to all the faulty manufacturing, I found it to be REALLY slow, more so than my current 4 yr. old model and the graphics are very low quality and antiquated looking. Save yourself the trouble.

    4 out of 5 stars a pretty good buy.......2006-05-14

I never have been able to afford a top-of-the-line computer, so all my experiences have been with models that come with a complaint or two. This is my second Compaq Presario and as with the first one, it's about what I expected. It is the first Athlon processor for me, and it seemed slow to me. I check and the computer systems said it was under 1 GHz. That confused me, as this 3500+ is supposed to be approximately 2.2 GHz. I called the 24/7 support number(which is great btw. No more website FAQs if you don't want to spent an hour searching and not finding what you're looking for!) and the tech explained to me that it was program driven, meaning it speeds up on demand. He had me turn off the energy saver and there it was, 2.2 GHz! So things are starting up faster and the small delays on the internet are gone. I don't know if "delays" are characteristic of Athlon processors or not, but apparently there are things you can do about it.
Physically, the front cover design is a pain. It's hard to remove. The covers to the Disk drives bother me. Yes, they look nice, but once they're open, there's no way to close the drive without just pushing on the tray. That increases the chance it'll jam or break, but oh well...
All in all it was a good value for the money.

    1 out of 5 stars 45 min to load.......2006-04-05

Ok lots of good reviews but my experiance is a bad one. Took me 45 min to load the first time. Restarts take about 8 min or so. Keeps locking up for no apparent reason. I will be taking this one back. Sounds like a great deal at the store but after getting home and trying to work with it, not impressed. My emachine that I was replacing is faster than this compaq that I bought at CompUsa. I will not recommend this machine.
