Product Description
The NetDisk Enclosure is a single drive Ethernet/USB 2.0 combination enclosure for your internal hard drives. It includes advanced NDAS technology for a central, simple and secure network storage with no IP configuration or server required. Install your custom hard drive and software, then connect the NDAS unit into a wired or wireless network (LAN) switch. Then install the driver software and use it like a local disk drive, on each specified computer. No more relying on a server for all your central storage needs. Get the direct networking, high performance and plug-and-play portability you need to be more productive! Since NDAS Enclosure requires no TCP/IP setting, the unit is invisible and safe from external hackers Includes Symantec backup software for added security

Great alternative to NAS storage.......2007-05-24
I purchased one of these a couple of years ago. I have used it multiple times as both an network storage and an attached USB device. I've never had any problems with it. I am also impressed with Ximeta because they constantly update the software, even for older products like mine! The fact it can be used as a RAID device is pretty cool too.
I would highly recommend this over NAS items such as the Netgear SC101. (Now that is a piece of junk!)
Geat If you need network storage.......2007-05-20
I used my old hard drives with these enclosures. I connected them with network option. Software that came with enclosures has connection wizzard for easy connection. Trouble free network storage that could be accesed with any computer on the network (you need install software on all computers). Beats USB drives, which can only be accesed from one computer. Works with VISTA!!!
Poor Product for anything other than home users.......2007-03-26
Our company has used one Netdisk for 5 people as a shared community drive for about 2 years. In the beginning it was ok, but as time progressed the drive would randomly unmount itself from your computer, present I/O errors, and in one instance suffer data loss. Because the computers were setup with a user hierarchy (e.g. Admin, Power Users, Users), if a drive randomly unmounted and a user was logged on, that person would have to log off, allow an admin to log-in, remount the drive, log-off the admin and log back in as a user. This was not only disruptive to the office enviroment, but it could cause serious problems if the admin is not around and the network drive contains data the user needs immediately. In my opinion Ximeta should create a driver that would allow windows to control and map the drive like any other NAS. That way proprietary software control won't get in the way. There's just so much more to be desired here. In my opinion, if you have any type of bussiness that requires more than one person to have uninteruppted control of the drive this isn't the device for you.
Up and running in 10 minutes.......2007-01-19
I already had an external 500 GB HDD, half full with data. So I didn't want to re-format it, and I needed to share the HDD over my home network.
Ximeta enclosure was a snap to use, and in less than 10 minutes my network disk was up and running. It is also reasonably fast - I can actually listen to my MP3 collection over the Wi-Fi network. Great for home and any small network.
Not at all sure.......2006-12-11
I installed my hard drive in the NDAS mode and registered the drive, just could not mount the device in any mode (read or read/write). Tried using the USB mode, and was happy to see that my drive was being recognized.
Alas, most directories started showing empty. One reboot and now I cannot see anything on my drive, though it physically is being recognized.
I'm going to try just one more drive for the heck of it and dump it back in the store.
Addendum: I can directly connect my hard drive and can do a read/write, some how this enclosure seems to think the drive is empty.
It was a pain to even just get the drive out of the enclosure, with two people needed for the job! Needless to say, the box is now sitting in the local Fry's shelf somewhere.
