5 out of 5 stars Best computer for money.......2006-02-11

I bought this computer almost a year ago. And I love it. It seems that although the company is now owned by Gateway they have managed to keep it separate. I worked on an eMachine around 2000 and was so impressed with it. Not alot of proprietary hardware configurations which is good for upgrades. This one seems to be no different. Be warned though the BIOS settings are able to be changed so if you are not comfortable working from your BIOS be cautious otherwise you may end up reformatting your hard drive. I have upgraded RAM and video card, both went in without a hitch. I run varied programs from this computer and with the couple upgrades they are stable and fast. I commonly use my computer for almost everything including recording tv (needs a separate tv tuner card), audiobooks and videos for both ipod video 60 gig and sandisk mp3 players, and games (for 2 kids) I have yet to find a game it hasn't run...but you would fare well to upgrade the ram and video card if you are going to run graphically intense games. My computer is used about 12 hours a day and the only problem I had was on setup the dvd burner would not make the system restore disks. I called eMachines tech support they were polite and knowledgeable and was sent a new dvd drive. I then had to call and ask for restore disks, you can only create them one time and well the dvd issue caused a problem. Again tech support was knowledgeable and kind and was sent restore disks for no charge. Whether you are a computer veteran or a novice this is a stable fast machine with great tech support. I cannot say enough about this computer or company. I also bought a Vaio (3.2 gig pentium hyperthreading processor) 10 days ago and hate it compared to my eMachine. Keep in mind that eMachines has both amd and celeron processors in certain models mine has a amd athlon which is capable of running current 32 bit software and the upcoming 64 bit software.
