4 out of 5 stars Solid.......2006-09-13

Usually I would buy Asian brands like Sony or Toshiba, I ended up getting this laptop and I must say I am very surprised.

I have been having it for 4 months and I could not be happier.

One thing only, if you are planning to watch movies on your laptop go for the "brightview" monitor, however if you do not care about watching movies on your laptop the lcd is the way to go since the other monitor is very reflective.

4 out of 5 stars A very good notebook overall.......2006-07-03

Had this notebook for 6 months now and the following summarizes my experience so far:
1. HP/Compaq online-chat support is exceptional and tech support helped me with a variety of issues (nothing to do with the unit being defective). Hardly any wait for a techie. You also get a transcript sent to your email for future ref.
2. Make sure you check and download the latest drivers including the latest bios (helped fix the WIN OS not turning off problem). Your notebook may already come with the bios fix.
3. The notebook came installed with an Athlon driver. I didn't notice any issues but downloaded the proper Turion driver from AMD.COM -- this notebook has the Turion processor.
4. The touchpad is fine....I use it only when traveling. At home I hooked up a notebook USB mouse and turned off the touchpad.
5. I will get a longer lasting battery if and when I decide to replace the battery. I get about 2.5 hrs with a full charge and would like longer times before charges, but so far I've never had an issue when traveling. At home/hotel it's most often hooked up to the AC supply.

I REALLY LIKE THIS NOTEBOOK.....no complaints overall. I use it to connect with the company mainframe off site via broadband, and also use it to run a side biz. I upgraded the XP Home that it came with to XP Pro. It does everything I need it to do including Microsoft Office programs, browsing, research, etc.

4 out of 5 stars very happy with this laptop.......2006-05-17

This is my first real laptop (also have an extremely old thinkpad.. think no cd drive) and I'm loving it. I've had this compaq for about 4 months and only have minor complaints/issues with it. I found mine on sale for about $800 so the prices vary a lot, so look around before buying it. Even after the minor complaints I would recommend this to anyone, it's great for the price and I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Praises:
The screen is excellent, I watch movies all the time and the picture is clear. Granted you need to stay away from sunlight to watch.. but it works well for what I want. The design is very nice looking and it is quite thin (not so much light, but it could be a lot worse). Speakers are nice sounding. The computer does everything I want. It's fast enough to get things done and I can be doing many things at once without it really slowing down. The battery life is normal from what I've heard about. Using wireless zaps the battery to around an hour and a half or so and playing music/dvds it's about the same. "normal" use gives the battery about 2 hours. I had the computer in a laptop bag thing and the strap broke, dropping it from about 4 feet. The bag was very thin, but the laptop did not have any damage - which was amazing.

Rants:
The dvd/cd drive is located right at the very bottom (not sure how to word it), you have to think about picking the laptop up from the other side. If you do try and move the laptop while a dvd is playing from the right corner or so, the dvd will restart etc, its not a huge problem.. just be mindful. The keyboard does "flex" if you push on the right corner of the keys the other keys will move. But this isnt an issue for me.. it's just odd - poor design or something.

So the 4 stars is because of the cd drive thing.. it bothers me a little.. but other then that the good things outweigh the bad

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding.......2006-03-09

Great notebook, it's plain and simple, yet stylish... i work with graphic design programs and haven't had any truble at all, runs any program smoothly and optimized, graphics look good and the system is fantastic! Turion 64 rules!
