Product Description
If you're like most of us, you've got quite a collection of movies - the Hollywood variety, your kids' G-rated movie collection, not to mention all your home movies - and they're all on VHS. While DVD is really exciting and makes movies sound and look much better, who wants all those movies you've collected over the years to become obsolete? Now you can have your cake and eat it, too - all in one space in your entertainment center. Because the Go-Video DVR4000 plays both DVDs and VHS tapes in one integrated system! You still need some way to tape your TV shows, right? So the DVR4000 comes with a top-of-the line VCR built right in, capable of being "programmed" to record 16 events (twice as many as others) up to a year in advance. And you can watch a DVD (or listen to a music CD!) while the VCR records. The DVD player contains features found only on very expensive DVD models, like component connections, playback of 96KHz/24-Bit audio CDs, zoom, playback of DTS-encoded DVDs, audio during 2x scan, 10-Bit Video Digital to Analog Converter and 27MHz Advanced Digital Filter. And the VCR is a top-of-the-line, 4 head, Hi-Fi, MTS Stereo VCR with many features not found on any other VCR - such as Complete Program Record (CPR) which senses the end of your tape and switches to slow play to make sure you don't miss the end of a recorded TV show. As well as child lock which disables the buttons on the front of the unit completely (then you hide remote), glow in the dark remote control buttons, index search, blank search, date time stamp, tape remaining counter and auto clock set for easy set-up. And yes, unlike other brands, it will record DVD to VHS - but only if your DVD is not copyright- protected with Macrovision.

If you need a simple, no-frills phone that keeps you in touch, the Motorola C155 deserves a serious look. The compact, easy-to-use design is jeans pocket friendly, while still managing to include a color display and polyphonic ringtones.

Design
The C155 follows the tried and true Motorola candybar style with an internal antenna -- so there's nothing to snag or break off. The 96 x 64 color display supports 4,096 colors, and a standard hands-free headphone jack is also provided. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad.

Calling Features
The C155 supports storage of phone numbers and contacts on an internal, removable SIM card. Choose from 20 built-in polyphonic ringtones, or use the vibrating alert when you want to be discreet. You can even create your own custom ringers with the included ringtone composer.

Messaging and Tools
If you need basic messaging capabilities, the C155 has you covered as support is built-in for sending and receiving SMS text messages. iTap text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built-into the unit-- a plus for text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the C155 including an alarm clock and a calculator with currency converter.

Entertainment
The C155 has plenty of fun built in, thanks to three built-in games. Now there's something to help you pass the time during your commute on the train or the bus! The phone also features customizable wallpaper graphics so you can dress it up to suit your style.

Vital Statistics
The Motorola C155 weighs 2.82 ounces and measures 4.09 x 1.93 x 0.94 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 6.67 hours of digital talk time, and up to 300 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the GSM 850/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars phone is the pits.......2007-02-10

This phone is a really neat phone however there are 2 issues with it. 1) It shuts off on its own all day although there is battery power so you are unable to keep your time and date set as you have to remove and replace the battery for the power to come back on. 2). after a few months the ringer volume even on all is hardly audible so you miss calls all the time, the phone also although on vibrate does not do this either after just a few months. I would not reccomend purchasing this phone, its cheap but you will have to buy another in a short time anyway.

3 out of 5 stars volume is terrible.......2006-06-30

Cute little phone, but I've had for 2 months but I don't like it! I have the volume turned as high as will go, but I still don't hear it ring most of the time. I paid for a custom ring tone and can't use it because its even quieter! And no, I am not hard of hearing.

Also battery life is terrible! I only use it 5-10 minutes a day, but it goes dead in 3-4 days!

I'm looking for a new phone

4 out of 5 stars Good Phone So Far.......2006-06-29

I purchased this about a month ago because it was a cheap unlocked phone. I really like it. The only problem I had is that I thought my phone book entries would be transferred when I put in the SIM card - that was not the case. I like the design and quality of the phone and the only drawback is that it does not seem to be able to store more than one phone number per name so I have to make separate entries (i.e., jim cell, jim home, jim work) which is a hassle and makes scrolling down the list of contacts more cumbersome.

5 out of 5 stars Motorola C155 is a great little no-frills phone.......2006-04-03

I got my own Motorola C155 after reading a positive review on MSNBC. It's a really cute small candybar phone, weighing in at 2 oz. and with a small but clear color screen and operating on the GSM network (the version sold in the U.S. is 850/1900, which means North America-use only and cannot be used in Europe or Asia). The phone has all the basic features of a cell phone, including the ability to let you compose your own ringtones as with most Moto phones. Voice clarity is excellent, and signal strength is good. I really like its compact size and light weight.

The C155 I got is for Tracphone and Tracfone removed the web feature, but the unlocked C155 can do web browsing if you have a data plan. As for Tracfone, I'm not too crazy about them at all. The standard pricing is expensive -- more so than many other prepaid providers -- and customer service is slow in response (hint: call them, don't e-mail). One good thing about the Tracfone version of C155 (which you can also buy here on Amazon) is you can receive unlimited SMS text messages for free. See my review of the Tracfone version of the C155 for more info.

Overall, I really love this cute little no-frills phone. I think $90 may be a little too much pay, but if you already have a SIM card and just want a solid basic phone (for calls and maybe also SMS), this is perfect.
