LIVESTRONG wristbands represent unity in the battle against cancer and hope for all those who are living with cancer.
The HP L2005CM features the AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-37, which will handle all you can throw at it today and will be ready for the coming onslaught of applications that will take advantage of 64 -bit processing technology tomorrow. Supremely mobile, it weighs just over 5 pounds and has a BrightView 14-inch display--which provides improved viewing in direct sunlight. Other features include a 100 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), dual-layer/multiformat DVD writer, built-in 54g wireless connectivity with 125HSM SpeedBooster, 128 MB of shared video RAM, Bluetooth wireless capability, and Windows XP Professional.
In addition to the $50 that the LAF will receive from each notebook, AMD and HP plan to donate notebooks for use in LAF-funded cancer survivorship centers throughout the United States. The two companies are inviting you to join them in the support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation by matching or exceeding the $50 per unit for the LAF.

The Basics

• Hard Drive: The 100 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is above average in size for notebook PCs, and it's roomy enough to store business productivity applications, all your important documents and presentations, and a good-sized digital audio and video library.
• Processor: Combining strong performance with efficient usage of power, the 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 ML-37 is uniquely optimized to power today's thinnest notebooks. It's also built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. It includes such AMD technology features as HyperTransport (which increases the communication between integrated circuits), PowerNow! (which enables longer battery life and reduced heat generation), and Enhanced Virus Protection (which works with Windows XP Service Pack 2 to better withstand attacks from certain classes of viruses). It also features a 1 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)
• Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC2700, 333 MHz, 2 x 512 MB) is a good start for running office productivity and audio software, but you'll want to take advantage of the ultra-roomy 2 GB of total RAM capacity (2 x 1 GB) for such multimedia needs as video editing and immersive 3D gaming.
• CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, this PC's multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 8x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds. It also comes with a second DVD-ROM optical drive, with 16x read speed.
• Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad.
Screen, Graphics and Sound
While the L2005CM's screen is actually as wide as standard 15-inch displays, the high-definition, widescreen 14-inch display (1280 x 768-pixel resolution) has the same form factor as a 12-inch screen --taking up less space on your desk. Even more impressive, its high resolution provides 25% more information than standard 15-inch XGA displays. This BrightView screen also provides a 20 percent brighter screen for better definition and 33 percent wider viewing angle for more accurate, off-center viewing. Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3D graphics. It has 128 MB of shared video RAM, which uses the notebook's main memory. It also features 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio and internal speakers.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The L2005CM has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. The 125 HSM/SpeedBooster support will enable it to be ready for tomorrow's 125 Mbps wireless LANs and the BroadRange support provides your 802.11g connection up to 50 percent more range than competing technologies. It also offers Bluetooth wireless connectivity, which enables you to synchronize and transfer files between the PC and peripherals such as cell phones and PDAs.

You get a decent offering of connectivity options, which does include super-fast USB 2.0 and FireWire:

• 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
• 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
• 1 VGA monitor port
• 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
• 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II, 32-bit)
• 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
• 1 Expansion Port 2 connector
• 6-in-1 Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Sticks,
• Memory Stick Pro, SmartMedia, and XD Picture Cards
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 operating system with Advanced Security Technologies, which helps to reduce unwanted downloads and pop-ups while surfing the Web. Other preloaded software includes Sonic Digital Media Studio, InterVideo WinDVD Player, Microsoft Zones.com, Apple iTunes and Apple iTunes Music Store, Adobe PhotoShop Album, Muvee AutoProducer DVD Edition with Burning, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Money, Microsoft MSN Encarta Plus, and Microsoft Office 2003 Student and Teacher Edition (60 day trial version).

Dimensions and Weight
Nice and light, this notebook weighs just 5.38 pounds and measures 13.15 x 9.1 x 1.29 inches.

Power
It's powered by a 12-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which has a battery life of up to 4.5 hours (depending on usage).

What's in the Box
This package contains the L2105NR notebook PC, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, printed operating instructions, zippered bag, yellow earbud headphones, and yellow LIVESTRONG wristband. LIVESTRONG wristbands represent unity in the battle against cancer and hope for all those who are living with cancer. The notebook is backed by a one-year limited hardware warranty, 1- year free technical support, and 30-day free software support.
LIVESTRONG is a trademark of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome PC.......2007-02-01

I purchased this laptop specifically because it was connected with the Lance Armstrong Foundation. I was pleasantly surprised with its performance and overall quality. It is a little more "old-school" looking than I had expected, but I love it! My husband has a 17" HP laptop that is a bohemuth at close to nine pounds. At 14" and a little over 5 pounds, this laptop is perfectly portable. The bright widescreen is big enough to watch movies on. I am an aspiring novelist, so I pay a lot of attention to the quality of the keyboard and I just have to say that I like the keyboard on this laptop better than any keyboard (on a laptop or otherwise) I have ever typed on. I was going to order this laptop from HP with lesser specs, but when I found this one for the price with the awesome specs, I couldn't pass it up.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good choice.......2007-01-15

This computer it's a good option. I like almost everything of it. The only things that could be better are the speed (I thought AMD Turion 64 was faster) and the position of the LAN and modem connectors and the USB ports because they are not in the back but on both sides. So, when you connect the periphericals you see a cable mess beside you.
Also there was a little problem when I received it (now is little because it was very easy to solve it, but when I received it was big because I live in South America, where claims are not easy): the DVD unit didn't open! Fortunately, I cleaned the whole computer with a soft cloth and I pushed hard the DVD and it became unblocked!
Well, but I think all computers have little things that you don't like. So, I think this computer is a good choice for the price I paid. I recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Great computer, even today!.......2006-11-16

For everyone nervous about purchasing this machine, don't be. I have been using it for application development for the past 6 months and i have to say it is more reliable than my work issued desktop. I think upgrading the RAM is a plus...

pros: nice size, keyboard is WAYYYY better than all of the laptops i've used, screen is crystal clear and bright, and performance is awesome. quick boot

cons: only set back is the internal speakers, but i have yet to find a laptop that has a great speaker system or need for one.

5 out of 5 stars Great portable 64-bit experience.......2006-05-21

I've had this laptop for almost a year, and it's been a nice, trouble-free computer. The hard drive is a bit noisy, compared to my iBook, but the same can be said of IBM Thinkpads, so compared to other PC laptops one cannot really complain. It works great with 64-bit Linux distributions - as of 2006, even suspend and hibernate works out-of-the-box.

Pros:
* 64-bit
* Dual-layer DVD burner *with* Lightscribe
* Flexible memory configuration. I ordered mine with a single 512MB stick, so expanding it is a question of adding another stick. The only trouble I had is working out that the larger stick has to be in the first slot, or the notebook won't boot.

Cons:
* Resolution. Why not 1280x800?
* Rubber coating on touchpad buttons. Don't clean it with tissue papers, they will flake and stick
* Lack of accessories. A keyboard cover would be nice - some of the keys on mine have been eroded to the point of shiny slipperiness

It's a shame that HP appears to create this model as a one-off - the upgrade path is to the Compaq V2000 series, which apparently has a worse keyboard (not to mention colour). It's still showing Apple some tricks (only the 17" MBP has the dual-layer burner); hopefully when the Turion x2 is launched we might get an updated model.

4 out of 5 stars Computer great. Custumer Service POOR!!!!!!.......2006-02-26

I just bought this computer and was having a little problem getting one of the programs working. So I called the number in my Customer Service booklet. When the person asked me what computer I had they told me that HP does not provide service to the Lance Armstrong Special Edition Laptops and that I need to return it to the store that I purchased it from; even though the Warranty book states I get 30 days of software support. Well I finally figured out that a program had not been fully installed. So I finnished installing the program and then it worked fine. I have had this computer for only two days so far but it plays movies really well is fast on start-ups, keyboard types nicely, the screen is bright and seems large for the size, and the wireless system seems to work really well. All and all I am pleased with the purchase just kind of miffed about the lack of support from HP. Going to write them a plesent little e-mail tomorrow.
