Amazon.com Product Description
Time to update your old-technology CRT TV? Zoom into the future with the technologically advanced yet still affordable 42-inch Syntax Olevia LT42HVi flat-panel LCD TV. It includes both built-in high-definition (ATSC) and 181-channel standard broadcast (NTSC) tuners. With the integrated ATSC tuner, you'll be able to receive off-air high definition broadcasts without the need for an external set-top box. More than just a high-quality TV, the set's PC inputs also make it equally suitable for home offices. It includes detachable speakers that can be mounted either on the bottom or on the sides, and it comes with a table-top stand (optional VESA-compatible wall-mounting kit available).

This LCD TV provides a 1366 x 768-pixel native resolution for a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio for optimal letterbox movie watching and compatibility with 1080p/720p/480p/480i HD formats. It also offers an extra-wide 178-degree viewing angle, super-fast 8ms (millisecond) response time that's great for watching sports, 800 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and 1200:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)

The LT42HVi performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. A 3D Y/C digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

The 50-watt stereo audio system (two 25-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies. The iDIVA virtual surround sound provides you with several easily adjustable settings that simulate an array of audio environments. It offers an HDMI connection, which provides an uncompressed transfer of high definition video from a digital video source to a digital display device, as well as the following input connections:

Syntax's iDEA Technology (Innovative Digitally Enhanced Architecture) delivers an exceptional solution to digital display complexities commonly associated with color, contrast, sharpness, motion, noise and audio lip-sync. iDEA's suite of built-in and user-selectable video/audio features delivers precise colors, sharp resolutions and audio synchronization through its advanced Digital Sound Processor (DSP).
Dynamic Brightness & Contrast Controls
Pure Edge Enhancement
Advance Sharpness Control
Maintains overall picture quality by providing consistent, balanced color levels to control shades of gradation in dark or bright image scenes. Virtually eliminates jagged edges from traditional interlaced video formats by creating refined edges around the objects on the screen. Advanced CTI / LTI algorithm improves color shifts and minimizes any type of shadowing or ghosting effects and increases sharpness and detail of pictures.

Dynamic Noise Reduction
Black Level Extender
White Peak Limiter
Reduces motion pattern noises without blurring an image especially when watching regular OTA (Over The Air) television broadcasts and low S/N ratio video signal. Extends certain "gray levels" to black within a picture to define details lost. Analyzes and limits the amplitude of white frequencies, that can distort images resulting in a faded or washed-out appearance during bright scenes.

Flesh Tone Control
Adaptive Luma Control
Advance DSP
Analyzes color frequencies and controls intensity of colors to give a more natural appearance. Takes whole picture and analyzes the intensity of primary and secondary colors to match that of brightness and contrast. The result is a balanced image of colors. iDEA Technology incorporates a high performance Digital Sound Processor (DSP). Through DSP's circuitry, the audio-to-video phases are analyzed and matched to prevent "lip-sync" inconsistency.

3 out of 5 stars A decent value, except for those X%##* dropped calls.......2006-12-25

We use this plan to make phone calls while away from a land line, pure and simple. We don't use games, family plans, special ring tones, music, internet access, text messaging, making movies, foot massage, tap dancing lessons or any of the "new and exciting" features that are advertised every day.

The family member using this plan drives about 750 miles a week, and has the phone attached to his ear all day to conduct business. We have found that 1,500 "anytime" minutes is ample for his needs. Our previous plan (Sprint), had many restrictions on calls, costing us a ton in roaming charges, out of network charges, and whatever other charges they could think up. This plan does not do that. You call the number you need to, and your time is subtracted from the monthly balance, pure and simple. (Of course the government will extract its pound of flesh, so budget $7 to $10 additional to the charge listed here)

This does not include directory assistance, which costs $1.49/call. Fancy ring tones and downloaded games do cost extra, and are remarkably easy to buy - too easy. I was trying to see what one sounded like and voila', I bought it! At a couple of bucks apiece, one could easily double the monthly charge or more.

We experience more dropped calls than we did with Sprint. This seems to be when we are moving from one cell to another, and may be a power problem. If never having a dropped call is important to you, then you might want to consider another company. (We live in a large city in the Northeast. If you live elsewhere, your mileage may vary)

The sound on this rivals a corded land line telephone. When the family member calls home, I have never heard the slightest amount of road noise, unless he physically points the phone at a passing ambulance or whatever. Some of this may be a quality of the phone, but Deutsche Telecom has done a terrific job in making their lines noise-free. (Deutsche Telecom is the company that owns T-Mobile)

All in all, we consider this to be a decent value, and we are mostly satisfied. If T-Mobile solves the dropped call problem, I could see us using this program for a long time.
