Amazon.com Product Description
The Samsung LTP227W vaults viewers squarely into the 21st century. The 22-inch LCD model functions as both a TV and computer monitor, and it's capable of receiving high-definition content when paired with an HD receiver. More impressively, the TV is designed to switch effortlessly between different media, and it even broadcasts two at once, meaning users can surf the Web in one window while watching HBO in another. The crisp 1,280 x 720 resolution ensures impressively realistic images on the narrow, flat LCD screen (which includes a wide 170-degree viewing angle). The screen also adds a striking design element to a room, with a black and silver bezel that draws attention without dominating.

The monitor's picture is enhanced by Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe), which optimizes motion, contrast, detail, and color to create vivid, lifelike pictures. Colors are more accurate, motion is sharper, and edges are more defined. The TV also includes a 3D digital comb filter that precisely separates the color signals to further clarify broadcasts, along with a specially designed filter that reduces or eliminates reception problems. The multimedia picture-in-picture feature not only lets viewers watch programs from two sources simultaneously, but also format them on a split screen in addition to a larger and smaller window.

Movie fans will delight in the 16:9 letterbox format, which broadcast select DVDs in a widescreen layout. The TV includes such additional features as a multilingual onscreen menu system, automatic tuning on the built-in NTSC tuner for up to 181 channels, adjustable picture and sound settings that store in the unit's memory, V-chip parental control, and an automatic timer that turns the TV on and off.

Fortunately for home theater buffs, the LTP227W doesn't ignore the audio, with a pair of 5-watt stereo speakers and MTS multichannel decoding that includes a separate audio program (SAP) when available. For users that prefer a richer experience, the unit simulates the surround sound effect through its SRS WOW option, which also emphasizes midrange and bass levels.

Connectivity occurs through the two component inputs and single S-video, RF, and two composite inputs. The component inputs are designed to accept HD receivers and DVD players for unparalleled video quality, while the composite inputs are ideal for camcorders and video game consoles. The unit also connects to a PC through its DVI and RGB inputs, letting users check their e-mail, surf the Web, and watch online movies through the TV.

What's in the Box
TV, remote control, two AAA batteries, power cord, RF cable cord, user's manual.

<table align=right width=250 cellpadding=10> <tr> <td> <img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/wireless/detail-page/tmoSDA.jpg" border=0 align=top>
<small><b>The SDA comes with stereo headphones, so you can enjoy your digital music on the go. See it in action.</b> <small></td></tr> </table> The SDA lets you do things you'd typically need a PC to do, like email, text messaging, instant messaging and web browsing-- all from one integrated phone. What's more, the phone's software is designed to sync seamlessly with email, contacts and calendar information on your PC. The SDA also offers great mobile music and video options, thanks to Windows Media Player.

<B>Design</B>
The SDA sports a 240 x 320 screen -- extremely high resolution when you consider the screen measures just 2.2 inches diagonally. Below the screen, the SDA's controls maximize available space on the small unit. Contextual menu select keys are arrayed just below the display, while a row of media control keys are placed just above a five-way selection button that allows you to navigate and control the Windows Mobile interface. A mini-SD memory expansion card slot is provided, and the rear of the phone sports a 1.3 megapixel camera with video capture capability. The power key and an infrared port are housed on the top of the unit, while a universal charger/data port and headphone jack are on the bottom. A mini-USB port is also provided for wired data transfers.

<B>Calling Features</B>
The SDA has all the latest calling features folks have come to expect from a high-end handset. The built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible. And a ringer and picture ID system makes it easy to identify your most common callers.

Like all T-Mobile phones, the SDA also supports voicemail, caller ID, conference calling, call forwarding, call waiting, call hold, built-in paging, and access to T-Mobile's 411 service.

<B>Messaging, Internet and Tools</B>
The SDA is designed as a complete solution for people who want to bring their office with them. The unit comes packed with mobile versions of Outlook, Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger. Outlook Mobile features integrated calendar and email functions, as well as a contacts list that is cleverly integrated with the phone's dialing functions. Robust SMS and MMS functionality is built into the Windows Mobile interface, too.

Microsoft's ActiveSync software keeps the device synced with all of your PC's Outlook information (via Bluetooth, USB, or IR connection). Users who want high-speed EDGE data connectivity on the road with their laptop or PDA can select a T-Mobile Internet package and tap the SDA's wireless modem capabilities.

The inclusion of Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) in the SDA allows you to surf the web at blazing speeds when you're connected to a Wi-Fi network. With the purchase of T-Mobile Hotspot data service, you can get online at thousands of locations coast-to-coast.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the SDA, including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a to-do list, and an alarm clock. T9 predictive text entry technology is also included.

<B>Imaging and Entertainment</B>
In addition to the 1.3 megapixel still camera, the SDA is capable of recording 176 x 144 video clips to its built-in 64 MB of memory, or to the miniSD memory expansion card. The inclusion of Windows Media Player on the SDA opens up a whole range of possibilities for this phone. Use it as a digital music player (with the included stereo headphones), or sync the device with Windows Media Player on your PC to download last night's TV shows so you can watch them whenever you want. Or watch streaming content from the Web. For gamers, the phone supports Java-based and Windows Mobile game downloads.

<B>Vital Statistics</B>
The T-Mobile SDA weighs 3.74 ounces and measures 4.53 x 1.82 x 0.69 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 4 hours of digital talk time, and up to 144 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Awesome do-everything device!.......2007-01-11

I bought this phone because I'm a gadgeteer, but never imagined it would be as functional and useful as it has turned out to be. Others have reviewed the technical characteristics of the phone, so I'll focus on the applications I've found useful.

The GPRS service is very handy when you get stuck in a ritzy hotel that wants to charge you $15/day to use the Internet. Of course, you'll need t-zones to use it. It can be quite slow, typically around 160kbps with full signal strength, but works in a pinch. It can be hard to find the settings you need to use to connect your laptop via bluetooth, so here they are:
- Use dial-up networking
- Dial number: *99#
- Username: voicestream
- Empty password

I run Microsoft Pocket Streets on this phone, with a Solarius V3 bluetooth GPS module. It's gotten me out of a lot of jams and more than paid for itself with unwasted gas money, even though it doesn't have voice prompts and requires you to anticipate your destinations and load the proper maps from your computer.

I installed a 2GB miniSD card in this phone, and store all my favorite MP3's on the phone. The headset is uncomfortable and falls out of my ears, and the music won't play over my bluetooth headset, so that's a negative aspect.

I love my Logitech bluetooth headset with this phone. The only problem is that the voice dial will call a random person if you don't speak quickly enough or accidentally press the button on the headset. Sort of embarrassing.

The camera and video camera work great. The images are somewhat fuzzy, and the audio in the video is sub-par, but what can you really expect? I like the mirror on the back to assist with self-portraits. It would be nice to have a flash, though.

Windows Mobile 5 has been quite stable, and very rarely crashes. Beware though, this smartphone edition can't run WM5.0 applications intended for PDAs with touchscreens. I tried it, and it just won't work.

I feel ripped off now that the phone is $125 cheaper than when I bought it, but I guess it was probably worth buying early since it's been so useful.

4 out of 5 stars Great phone but..........2006-12-29

I am using this phone for 6 months already and satisfied with it. It has Windows Mobile 5.0 platform and it is my first experience using smarphones and Windows Mobile platform on phones. So, it is hard for me to compare with other smartphones.

Advantages:

-First impression was great. Very easy to learn use the phone if you are experienced with Windows. Easy to set-up email or connect to wireless router.

Built-in wi-fi is amazing. I never had a problem yet connecting to different wireless routers even with 128-bit WEP encoding. It is so convenient to scan around for shared routers. You can check your yahoo email or favorite web-site pretty much everywhere without carrying laptop or paying for phone's internet service. It's awesome!

The phone itself is very slick and small for smartphones and pretty big size screen. When you run Media Player in full screen it switches screen into vertical view so it feels like watching widescreen TV.

The screen resolution is awesome! Most of my friends have PDA's but it seems SDA's screen resolution is sharper and brighter which is great for watching videos.

The built-in joystick is very useful and easy to navigate through icons or web-page and click feature of joystick responds fast and doesn't stuck.

There are two buttons I liked very much - "Go to Home Screen" button which minimizes all applications on desktop and "Go back" button which opens previous page in IE or previous application on the screen. There is also button which invokes IE and opens "My T-mobile page" but I wish I could change that page to any other Home Page. But it is still handy to open IE itself.

Numpad buttons are quite small but easy to press if you use your nails. The buttons are not "sticky" and just sensitive enough.

Few people mentioned that it is not easy to lock key buttons and takes 2 buttons. That is not really true. There is shortcut - just keep holding "Hang up/ Cancel" button a second or so and it will automatically lock your keys without extra hustles! I hope it will be helpful to many of you.

Phone can be used as a modem through USB or infrared port. It is not hard to set-up modem but you need to contact T-mobile customer service first for extra information.

There is Task Manager to kill or remove from memory any application.

Battery life is amazing - i recharge it every 3 days. But make sure to remove unused applications from memory and reduce "turn-off screen" time. Especially enabled wi-fi, infrared or bluetooth eat lot's of battery life, so, turn them off when not using.

T-Mobile customer service is the best I've ever had. You enjoy talking to operators and they always try to solve an issue. I never had a case when they couldn't help me. Just compare yourself - you will feel difference. And their bill statements are pretty clear and easy to track. No rip-off roaming charges and hidden fees. I travel a lot and never had problem with roaming. They do really great job!

Disadvantages:

It supports MS streaming video format but unfortunately doesn't support all other formats.

Phone's Internet Explorer doesn't support JavaScript (i am not sure if other phones do or not) but if web-site uses JavaScript (or AJAX) for authentication (like my many favorite streaming online TV channels) you won't be able to login such pages. I am not sure if it is important for many users but for me it was big disappointment since I wasn't able to login such web-sites.

I hate those 3 Media Player buttons: you always by accident press them and it opens Media Player on your screen which I find very annoying. You have to go to Task Manager to remove Media Player from memory otherwise it will waste your memory.

The biggest downside of the phone is speakerphone - maximum volume is below average but the quality of playing music is not bad.

The voice service is not bad but not perfect on small cities - I never had call drops yet but have very bad reception and voice quality in small towns or country side.

This phone is not replacement for IPOD but if I had to carry IPOD and phone at the same time I would just use SDA with couple gigs of mini SD card full of mp3's.

The only reason I am giving only 4 stars because of very low volume of speakerphone and annoying 3 Media Players buttons. They should give an option to disable them.

Overall, i recommend this phone to people who want to take advantage of most features of smartphones and still carry very slick, quite small and stylish phone with great battery life on their pockets.

1 out of 5 stars SDA is falling aparty.......2006-12-07

I purchased the SDA in April and it is already falling apart. It hasn't been dropped, abused, etc. The plastic on the side is starting to come apart and if it gets caught on something it will come apart. I tried to contact T-mobile and they said it's not covered under the warranty. The only thing the warranty covers is the software. So if the keyboard falls off or the phone falls apart that isn't covered. I am extremely disappointed since I paid nearly $400 7 months ago for a plastic piece of junk.

1 out of 5 stars Deceiving & lacking power.......2006-11-30

I too thought my new SDA was amazing upon purchase 5 months ago but have been increasingly disappointed. Wifi has been useless for me the few times I've wanted to connect. Bluetooth has worked fine for me. It really lacks processing speed - very sluggish. I personally have had audio problems using mine as an MP3 player - it was great to listen to but after, the ear piece went dead! I could make or receive any calls! Luckily it's still under warrantee so T-mobile is sending me a new one but I wish it wasn't an SDA. Also the keypad backlight often didn't turn on. low earpiece volume. Super small keys. Undependable and poor quality. So don't hand over money for this one.

3 out of 5 stars Good Phone.......2006-11-28

Overall it is a good phone. If you are looking for a PDA, you shouldn't go for it.

One big advantage of this phone on other phones is its wi-fi capability.

The Internet explorer bundled with the phone fails only on sites which use plugins or where the page size is big [...].

Also a a bigger RAM and more storage space would also have helped. It has your usual windows OS properties - installing/uninstalling too many 3rd party) programs has slowed my phone down. It needs a re-boot every 4-5 days (memory leaks ???). Missed button clicks especially during the automated customer service are annoying.

I feel an anti virus would had helped because of its use as a browsing tool which has a lot of a) personal information like phone book/e-mail addresses and b) it synchs with you PC.

It doesn't synch with your linux box.

The signal reception is great. Voice clarity is good.

As far as the phone features go it has every thing you need and they work great if you use the gadget as a phone and for googling/light surfing.
