Good product for price.......2007-05-07

It definitely has worked well for me so far. When moving large amounts of information on to or from the hard drive it can be a little slow. It would be nice if it had a firewire port, so other than the speed it really has done its job well so far.

I would be hard pressed to come up with faults for the marvelous tool. The 500 Gb external drive is so easy to use. Your computer adapts immediately to the appartus and functions flawlessly. The price and size are great. Can I say any more?

Disappointed.......2007-04-27

This is my third SimpleTech external, and based on my first two, I was happy to buy another. HOWEVER, the drive in the picture is NOT the drive I was sent. The drive in the picture is great, quiet, fast, compared to others it's a battle-tank. The drive I was sent IS a SimpleTech and it is 500gb, but the case design appears to be a newer model. It's a bit more streamlined and slightly smaller, but my complaint comes in it's performance. This new design is EXTREMELY SLOW. It's so slow that it will crash any media program trying to read from or write to it such as WMP11 or Nero 7UE. Honestly, to say this thing is "just a little slow" is like saying the Atlantic Ocean is "just a little damp." And when you do write a large file to it (go get a sandwich), it makes a loud grinding noise; it really scared me, I thought it was braking. I did not return it because as I mentioned, it IS a 500gb SimpleTech external and it does function so technically this IS what I ordered. But they have the incorrect drive pictured on the product page. As I type this, I'me looking at a status box telling me it's going to take 240 minutes to move a 1gb avi file from the drive. Umm... sure.

it is a great machine, what i like about it is not like loud like the other external, complete silence. The capacity is huge annd i can back up a lot with, best choice and good price.

I did not receive the same drive as in the picture instead I got a newer model as well. It worked fine for about 3 days then it started making a thumping sound and died... Customer service from Amazon was great, they resent me a new drive no questions asked and reimbursed me for shipping the first one back. The replacement has been working well, and the drive is simple to set up and easy to maintain. The only complaint I have is that you have to manually turn the drive off, some external drives will shutdown with your computer. But in this case you get what you pay for.

Also, I don't have any problems with the drive being loud, so I guess its hit or miss with that.
