Amazon.com Product Description
Enjoy the crystal clear imagery of high-definition television with the stylish, silver 32-inch Magnavox 32MF231D HDTV, which provides a wide array of connectivity options for all your video needs. It has a built-in ATSC tuner that pulls HD signals right from the airwaves (via an optional antenna), and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. You can also hook up an HDMI-capable cable or satellite set-top box and enjoy the the highest standard of high-definition audio and video--with a single cord connection. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. It comes with a removable tabletop stand, and this set can be wall-mounted with optional hardware.

The 32MF231D delivers a true 1366 x 768-pixel HDTV resolution (capable of displaying 1080i and 720p high-definition signals), and it features a wide 170-degree viewing angle, 500 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating--perfect for viewing colorful details in even direct sunlight--and high 800:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) It also offers a very fast 8ms (millisecond) response time, which is great for watching fast-moving. sports and action movies.

The 3D motion adaptive de-interlacing feature cleans up noise that can occur in digital video streams, so the image is crisper, without jagged edges. The 3D comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Convenience features include the Smart Picture function, which allows you to choose among settings for optimal picture color, and V-Chip parental controls.

Experience great stereo sound from built-in 10-watt speakers (with a total power output of 20 watts). Magnavox's Smart Sound feature automatically prevents the jumps in volume between programs and commercials and provides a steady volume level. It offers the following connection options:

Tech Talk
HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).

Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect Modern Machine Save One Thing.......2006-05-13

Pro:

Speedy: I would vouch to say this laptop is as fast as my 2.8 Pentium D desktop. Great performace, not your typical laptop speed. I had a disk defrag running in the background and tried to open outlook and compose an e-mail. Amazed! That says something for the hard drive as well as the processor.

Features: Nice features, fingerprint scanning is cool, applications are rich and modern (not typical of HP). Very comfortable keyboard and mouse. Lots and lots of USB ports, Firewire 800, modem, etc, etc, and most importantly the strategic placement of them on the laptop.

Graphics: 1440x900 is ideal for me and certainly viewable. The higher end laptops with 1680x1050 are just too tiny to read without making all kinds of crazy customized changes in each application. I'm sure I'll wish for the higher rez when Vista is released. Stil XP Pro looks great! Stay away from other laptops claiming shared video memory. Discrete memory is the only way to go. The ATI x1600 w/ 256 in this things is flawless. World of Warcraft maxed out stil runs without studder (shhh, don't tell the boss).

Battery Life: Wow, long for a 17 but I think I know why it lasts so long, see below.

Cons:

The screen on this laptop is dim, even with the Ambiant Monitor off and the FN+F10 maxed. I'm pretty sure they do this to extend battery life. Still, it's noticiably dimmer than the Sony, Dell, Toshiba, and even HP Pavillion laptop I was comparing. If 0 was pitch dark and 100 was staring directly at the Sun, I would say it's about a 4.

No disks included. They have moved to sticking a recovery partition on the hard drive which does two things. 1.) Less hard drive space than you had hoped for , 2.) You cannot do a fresh install of Windows XP Pro with just the things you want. You are forced to have all the fluff that HP wants you to have.Norton immediately prompts you for money and all their software. Uninstalling this stuff does not remove it from the hard drive, it only removed the executables from running. More crap on your hard drive.

1 out of 5 stars Gave Up Waiting for my Laptop.......2006-04-20

I ordered my laptop 3/16/06 from HP and customized it with an extra 1Gb of RAM, extra USB ports, 1GB smart card, and an Expansion base. I checked the box on the order form, to send it all at once. Instead they sent everyting separtely, the RAM, the smart card, the ports, and the base all arive separately.

The projected shipping date for the laptop was over two weeks from the order date. At the end of the two weeks, I received an email stating they would miss thier shipping date, that the laptop is backordered (I ordered it from HP!), and I would receive another email if it didn't ship within 10 days. Ten days came and went and I sent an email enquiring about that status. I got a reply that they are "still experiencing product availability challenges." I replied asking when they thought their challenges would be resolved. I got one reply that stating an estimated shipping date of 5/15/06 and a separate reply from someone else at HP with an estimation of 4/27/06.

I replied that I wanted to cancel my order and to receive a reverse charge on my credit card for the parts they already sent and charged me for. I just now received a reply saying my HP account would be credited. I called the 800 number they sent, to find out if this was one in the same as crediting my Credit Card account. I got a representative in Mexico. I had difficulty understanding the rep and asked for an American rep but he said they don't have American Help representatives. He did assure me that my credit card account would be credited. I ended up buyig a HP Pavillion dv8000 which came with XP Media Center Edition. I don't mind the OS since it is built on top of XP Pro and I can still use Remote Desktop and do my development work. It is a nice machine and lite and I like the xb2000 Expansion Base. It does hang every now and then and is slow at other times.
