The Basics

Hard Drive: A welcome size for road warriors, the 100 GB hard drive is definitely above average in size for notebook PCs--great for storing a digital medial library or graphics-intensive presentations--and faster than average at 5400 RPM. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the next version of Microsoft Windows, code-named Vista. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. It's more efficient, thanks to Intel's Power Coordination and Deeper Sleep, which help to transfer power only to those areas of the processor that need it. It also features Intel's Digital Media Boost, which delivers enhanced performance on floating point-intensive applications such as CAD tools, 3D and 2D modeling, video editing, digital music, digital photography and gaming.

Memory: The 1 GB of built-in memory (PC4200, DDR2 SDRAM, 2 x 512 MB) is a very good start for power users, and it offers a top-of-class 533 MHz speed. It has two memory slots, enabling you to add a maximum of 4 GB to handle immersive 3D video games, video editing, graphics-intensive presentations, and multiple open business productivity applications.

CD/DVD Drive: The double-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. I bought this laptop as a replacement for an older Sony. It was a good move! I use it primarily for graphics and audio work, and I couldn't be more pleased. But it also does a good job with text and surfing the Internet. It connected to my home network with no problems.

The mouse function is a bit of a nuisance to get used to, but once you do, there's just nothing to complain about with this little gem.

Compared to my previous laptop, this one is a rocket with plenty of space for my large audio and video files. And the screen makes graphics look great.

Highly recommended!

Excelent Laptop for the price.......2006-09-22

This is my second Toshiba laptop and i'm very satisfied with it. Light weight, good battery life and excelent performance. The only bad point (the reason i didn't give it 5 stars) is the lack of a IR port (the old laptop has one). Bottom line: For the price is a very good deal.

A good deal..........2006-07-08

I bought this on sale, it's a good laptop, its light waight and is really confortable for travel. I'm studying architecture and with all thebig programs i have to use to draw its really fast and never freezes, its reeeally fast and the 1GB memory is great...
I only had a problem with it and that's why i only gave it 4 stars and its the bluetooth that it was supposed to be included and working and has not yet worked, tha other thing that gave me a hard time was the mouse pad but juts read the manual and you'll get it
The wireless its really good and easy to use.

Its a good deal for the money

The Best Laptop I've Ever Owned!.......2006-06-03

I depend heavily upon my laptop for work, and also travel on business. Out of several laptops I've owned over the years--including a Toshiba predecessor to this model (which I stupidly DROPPED!), this one is the best. My former Compaq used to freeze up constantly requiring me to eject the battery just to reboot. The previous Toshiba while absolutely *wonderful* wasn't quite as fast as this one, and I paid more money for it.

One thing I really love about this particular laptop is how easy the wireless is--if you're in a new area, it's simple to search and find wireless where you can hop on. In other words, if you're still a bit flummoxed by the latest technology this is a model that delivers it all, but doesn't require a masters degree in computer science.

Easy to use, fast and efficient at an affordable price, I highly recommend this laptop!

Bottom Line - Great Notebook for the Price!.......2006-05-22

Bottom line, this notebook is a great buy. The 1.63Ghz processor shouldn't fool you. It's been mentioned that this computer works at about 2.4GHz if it were a Pentium 4.

When I went to purchase this computer at Circuit City, I noticed that the screen was dimmer. It was because of all the glare associated with the shop but when I took it home, it's a nice clear image that's not too dark.

Gotta love the DDR2-RAM. It's really cool because you can run a lot of programs without seeing the computer's performance. 1GB is awesome, but in order to upgrade to the max 2GB, you need to remove both chips (2x512MB) and put in 2X1024 chips for the full upgrade. That's the only disadvantage.

It's a great deal and I recommend a great buy.
