Product Description
Sharp's LC-13S1U-S provides a unique, versatile solution for home installation. The LC-13S1U-S's stylish yet simple design, with speakers placed below the LCD screen, makes this television much narrower than side-speaker models. This enables the LC-13S1U-S to fit into many places throughout the home, all without sacrificing any features! The LC-13S1U-S utilizes Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View/Black TFT Panel, which provides levels of high brightness (430 cd/m2), a 500: 1 contrast ratio, and wide viewing angles (170? x 170?). Additionally, the LC-13S1U-S is an EDTV monitor, which means it is compatible with 480p signals from progressive DVD players. The LC-13S1U-S includes an easel-style table stand that allows the TV to occupy an amazingly small footprint. In addition, the stand is easily removed for wall mounting applications. These models use the VESA 100mm standard mounting pattern and are compatible with a wide range of brackets including Sharp's AN-PSMARM and AN-PUCM.
Amazon.com Product Description
The footprint may be small, but the LC-13S1U-B is outfitted with a big-time feature set. The package starts with the 13-inch active matrix LCD screen, which is bright (430 cd/m2), crisp (500:1 contrast ratio), and impressively resolute (480 x 640 pixel resolution) for such a small TV. The AQUOS LCD engine is an added bonus, as it's engineered to display the same vivid pictures in both dark and bright locations, such as near windows, doors, and other light sources. The TV also features wide 170-degree viewing angles--so viewers can watch TV from virtually anywhere in the bedroom, office, or kitchen--along with progressive-scan compatibility, which lets owners of modern DVD players enjoy 480p images in full clarity.

The TV comes with an easel-type stand that's a mere 6 inches deep for space-limited settings. Users who want to save even more space can remove the stand and mount the monitor on a wall (brackets sold separately). Additional features include a built-in 181-channel tuner, a sleep timer, V-chip parental control, and a trilingual onscreen menu. The monitor's audio package is also solid, with a pair of 2.1-watt speakers, MTS stereo decoding, and the ability to play secondary audio broadcasts when available.

The model connects to other audio/video devices through the component video input (ideal for DVD players and satellite dishes), S-video input, and two composite inputs. The LCD TV is also Energy Star compliant.

What's in the Box

Amazon.com Product Description

Get ready for high-powered messaging, email, chat, and a whole lot more with the ingeniously designed Kyocera KX21 "Switchback." At first glance, the phone looks like just another candybar style handset. Flip it open, though, and you've got a QWERTY keyboard and a large internal display. Plus, features like a VGA camera, support for the wireless Internet, and a speakerphone make this phone far from ordinary. It's a great way to take advantage of all that Virgin Mobile prepaid service has to offer.

<B>Design</B>
The KX21's face features a large, 65,000-color screen with 128 x 128 pixels. You'll also find a dialpad here and a five-way center button that controls most of the phone's on-screen menus. Flip the phone open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, another five-way center button, and call control buttons. The design allows for calling functions to be performed with the phone open or closed. A horizontally oriented 160 x 128 screen is placed above the keyboard, right next to a speaker that enables the phone's speakerphone functions.

On the back of the phone, you'll find a VGA camera, as well as a self portrait mirror and an LED flash, which can also double as a flashlight. Other design features include a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets and side keys for controlling call volume and other functions.

<B>Calling Features</B>
The phone's internal phone book can accommodate up to 500 contacts for quick retrieval of numbers, email addresses, and other info. The phone supports polyphonic ringtones and Virgin Mobile's "Superphonic" music ringtones, as well as vibrating alerts. Voice dialing lets you call your favorite contacts by simply speaking their names, and you can also control many of the phone's features and dialing functions with your voice. Meanwhile, picture and ringer ID functions allow you to set specific ringers and pictures to certain callers. And last but not least, a built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk hands-free.

<B>Messaging, Internet, and Tools</B>
Support for basic text messaging and robust multimedia messaging (MMS) are built into the KX21. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging chat is also supported, thanks to an embedded AOL Instant Messenger client. A built-in wireless web browser lets you surf Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) 2.0 sites via the Virgin Mobile Web service. eZiText text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy tools ship with the KX21, including an alarm, a calendar, and a calculator with a tip calculator. There's also a voice memo application for recording quick notes or numbers.

<B>Imaging and Entertainment</B>
The KX21 is designed to kick the fun up a few notches. The built-in VGA camera captures great stills and comes equipped with a flash, a five-step digital zoom, multi-shot adjustment, a self-timer, resolution adjustment, and white balance. Because the KX21 supports Java applications it is compatible with many Java-based games. Many games are available from Virgin Mobile's wireless download service. You can also customize the phone with custom graphics and wallpapers, many of which are also available from Virgin Mobile.

<B>Vital Statistics</B>
The Kyocera KX21 Switchback weighs 4.1 ounces and measures 4.25 x 2.05 x .95 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3 hours of digital talk time, and up to 150 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the CDMA 1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

4 out of 5 stars Love my Switchback .......2007-03-14

I bought my cell through an auction site about 2 months ago, so I got a good deal on it. Well, as some have mentioned the phone has shutdown on me only once while I was using the QWERTY keyboard. Other than that I have had no problems, call reception is great. The camera on this phone isn't the greatest but I don't need it to be high end for the basic fun pics I take. If you're looking to get zoom in, larger, clearer pictures this isn't the phone for you. The camera screens can be a bit confusing but I've learned to deal with it & my pics come out as I like. A strange feature is the speakerphone, while it is quite loud & clear, Kyocera placed it on the inner flip side of the phone which muffles the sound. Aside from these things, I love my switchback. The QWERTY keyboard is perfect for txting but may be too cumbersome for larger fingers as the keys are small.
As far as plans are concerned I don't have any problems w/ over charges since I have the 18 cents/min plan. It's good to know that the monthly plans aren't recommended though. A bonus to the per minute plans is the Sugar Mama service, where you get free airtime for giving your opinion on minute video clips. Good for purchasing games or ringtones w/o using up your top-up money.
And this cell isn't only for the young crowd, I'm an over 25 mom. I got this phone b/c other carriers hardly carry QWERTY phones & those that do require addt'l internet service plans (like Blackberry's, Black Jack & Palm TREO's). I only wanted to easily send txts & have it in one compact phone. This was ideal for me!

1 out of 5 stars Garbage.......2007-02-11

The phone may be fine but I will never know because my Virgin Mobile service never really worked. Perhaps it was the phones fault I never received text messages even though they were being deducted from my account. Overall their customer service is AWFUL. Days of waiting and receiving no information. I had to file 4 investigations because they would close them without resolving the issue or they were not filled out right. I spent hours on the phone with them and never had the problem fixed. Now I have thrown away a bunch of money for crappy service. I plan to just run out the minutes and then disconnect the phone. Its garbage.
I went with the T-Mobile Sidekick and already am way happier.

3 out of 5 stars This phone isn't just for kids........2006-12-27

This review is solely about the phone, as I'm 100% happy with my plan.

I wanted this phone to really work out for me because I really fell in love with it at first sight, but there are glitches and some personal grievances that hopefully will be taken care of in the next gen of this phone (if there IS a next gen in the works).

Initially, when I saw this phone, I knew I had to have it. I loved the sleek design and how it wasn't as boxy or as large as Verizon's "V" or "enV". And I didn't mind that it didn't sport as many features as Verizon's phone.

I love the small design (even though some think it's clunky, I don't). I love how easy it is to send a text message of a short IM to a friend or families. The ksys are small, but I didn't have a problem with them--except for the "y" key. The "y" key is right next to the OK button and sometimes I have to press it harder than the other keys to get it to register.

I didn't mind that it didn't have MP3 capabilities or video capabilities, but I do think that Kyocera could've done better than a 300K camera. (No, it's not a MP cam as one reviewer said.) The pictures aren't bad, but I think this phone could've handled a 1MP camera. And if you want to take pictures horitzonally, you have to open the camera. Otherwise, you'll get a picture with a vertical orientation. And I found that taking pictures with the flip open was somewhat awkward at times--especially during on-the-fly shots.

Then, there's this glitch that others have mentioned where the phone will randomly power off for no reason at all. It's happened in the middle of calls, text messages, whatever I'm doing. Sometimes, the phone powers back on. Someties, it does. I called customer service about this, but my feelings about this phone are ambivalent now. I think I'm just going to return it and go with the "enV".

Pros:
- nice, sleek design
- very good messaging phone without being as bulky as some of its competition
- good phone quality, but I did have moments when I wasn't moving that static would take over for a second even if the other person was on a landline
- loud ringtones
- great speakerphone

Cons:
- could've came equipped with a better camera
- camera controls could've been a bit more streamlined and user friendly
- randomly powers off even with a full charge

Overall, I think this is a great multimedia phone that just needs a few kinks worked out of it.
