Amazon.com Product Description
Ideal for offices, apartments, dorms, or bedrooms, Polaroid's LCD-1700 LCD TV produces exciting, perfectly flat widescreen images while occupying minimal desk or shelf space. The 17-inch television includes an NTSC tuner for immediate off-air reception, and it's configured in a 16:9 aspect ratio that matches most HDTV broadcasts and movies. It boasts 1,280 x 768 native pixel resolution and accepts both standard-definition (480i) and--through its component-video inputs--enhanced-definition (480p) signals. Further, the screen renders VGA/XGA PC signals via a rear-panel 15-pin D-Sub input.
With its high, 400:1 contrast ratio, impressive 450 cd/m2 brightness rating, and onboard digital comb filter (which separates the color signals to minimize dot crawl and blurred edges), the set's sharp, focused images look great irrespective of their source. The screen's super-wide, 176-degree viewing angles give everyone in the room a great view.
LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (with no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and--at a mere 22 pounds--light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be more affordable than their flat-panel plasma counterparts, which often (though not always) offer faster response times and higher contrast ratios.
Other connections include an RF coaxial antenna/video input and 1 each composite-video, and S-video inputs with 1 stereo analog (left/right) RCA audio input between the component-, composite-, and S-video jacks.
The LCD-1700 also offers stereo speakers with 1.5 watts per channel (x 2), a sleep timer, a headphone jack for private listening, and a full-function remote control.

Amazon.com Product Description
Blending affordability with productivity power, the HP Pavilion dv5130us notebook PC is a great choice for both business road warriors and multimedia enthusiasts on the go. The 15.4-inch BrightView display looks good even in direct sunlight, and movies and games will look clear thanks to the ATI Radeon XPress 200 video/graphics card (with 128 MB of shared memory). Enjoy movies or music in seconds with the external DVD or music buttons to launch HP QuickPlay (which bypasses the boot process). Control playback settings from up to 10 feet away with the included HP remote, then store it conveniently in the PC card slot. Easily share digital photos with the included HP Image Zone Plus software. And you'll stay productive with the 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 ML-37 processor. This notebook also features an 120 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB max), built-in 54g wireless connectivity with 125 HSM/Speedbooster support, LightScribe multi-format/dual-layer DVD+/-RW drive (which also burns CDs), and Windows XP Media Center edition.
The Basics

Hard Drive: The 120 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is large in size for notebook PCs, and it's roomy enough to store business productivity applications, all your important documents and presentations, and a good-sized digital audio and video library.
Processor: Combining strong performance with efficient usage of power, the 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 ML-37 is uniquely optimized to power today's thinnest notebooks. It's also built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. It includes such AMD technology features as HyperTransport (which increases the communication between integrated circuits), PowerNow! (which enables longer battery life and reduced heat generation), and Enhanced Virus Protection (which works with Windows XP Service Pack 2 to better withstand attacks from certain classes of viruses). It also features a 1 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)
Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC2700, 333 MHz, 2 x 512 MB) is a very good start for running office productivity and audio software, but you'll want to take advantage of the ultra-roomy 2 GB of total RAM capacity (2 x 1 GB) for such multimedia needs as video editing and immersive 3D gaming.
CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the dv5130's multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds. It also comes with a second DVD-ROM optical drive, with 16x read speed. It also comes with an extra DVD-ROM drive for disc playback only.
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).
Screen, Graphics and Sound
You'll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 15.4-inch WXGA high-definition screen, which displays an 18 percent larger picture than standard 15-inch screens and offers up to an 18 percent improvement in contrast ratio. It has a widescreen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels--perfect for watching DVD movies the way they were meant to be seen. Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3D graphics. It provides 128 MB of dedicated video RAM shared. ATI's HyperMemory technology allows the chipset to run in either Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) mode or with dedicated frame buffer memory to enhance graphics performance. It also features an integrated audio card with microphone and headphone jacks.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The dv5130us has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. The 125 HSM/SpeedBooster support will enable it to be ready for tomorrow's 125 Mbps wireless LANs. You get a basic offering of connectivity options:

3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
1 VGA monitor port
1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II, 32-bit)
1 ExpressCard/54 slot (also supports ExpressCard/34)

1 notebook expansion port 2
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. Additionally, it enables you to control your television with the included remote and record and pause programs (much like a DVR--or digital video recorder--such as Tivo or ReplayTV). It's compatible with cable, digital cable, satellite TV and antenna inputs, and it includes an FM tuner.

HP Pavilion 5130us by KaTwo.......2006-07-24
The track pad does disable when you want to type. It reengages when one restarts or exits from hibernation. The shift key is a "sticky" key which allows one to use it for CTL-ALT-SHIFT combinations -- thus the issue of sometimes when you hold down the shift key longer than 4 secs. it locks into CAPITALS.
The cdrom is based on Roxio software and is very easy to use the wizard. DVDs are also easy to burn into a drag n drop box.
My harddrive makes four clicking noises when I start it up -- that is rather unnerving and distracting. My computer came with a very good pc recovery system by configuring a D: partition for restore purposes. Also, there is a feature for you to have checkpoints in the state of you notebook so in case of trouble, one can revert back to a safe state. It would be nice if this feature was tied in with the XP hibernate feature; whenever one hibernates the notebook, a checkpoint is copied to the D: partition.
The PC recovery system works well. In the second week of use, I scored a trojan horse and had to use it. All personal data was lost, but the pc was returned to its original shipping state. Not all was lost -- the printer was effortlessly reconfigured very quickly probably because it was a HP 5610 ALl in One.
I will install LINUX to utilize the 64 bit features, but Windows users note that this machine is VISTA capable -- when it gets here.
I miss my IBM.......2006-06-16
Compared to the keyboard on my old IBM A31, the keyboard sucks. It's noisy, tough, and they keys rattle. I also wish it had a trackpoint device so I could disable the touchpad. The touchpad also needs an on/off switch like I saw on some of the other HP models for when I am using a mouse. Also, spontaneously, the keyboard will suddenly start typing in all caps for a minute or two. It even happened when I initially started typing this! I put Windows XP Professional on instead of the Media Center and it still does it.
I like to play Battlefield 2. While it runs, it needs a little better video card and a much faster harddrive. Speaking of video, the 128MB of RAM is dedicated. There is also a feature in the BIOS where you can share RAM for a total of up to 256MB for video.
I bought mine at CompUSA and I am a little peeved. At least Amazon makes it clear that the 1GB of RAM is in two sticks of 512MB. I originally thought it came with 1 stick of 1024MB, which would have made sense. It makes it a little more difficult to upgrade.
While it has a Turion 64 processor, it doesnt come with a 64 bit version of Windows XP. HP is also not supporting 64 bit operating systems. Therefore, unless you are going to use linux, the extra registers and stuff characteristic of a 64bit processor are wasted. It it still pretty fast though.
I am happy with the security. It has a harddrive password feature just like the one my IBM A31 had. If it gets stolen, all your info on the harddrive is useless to the theives, unless they can guess your password. Hands down, that is the best security feature a computer can have.
If you need Gigabit LAN speed, this doesn't do it. It just has a 10/100 ethernet card. Also, according to a few system information programs, it seems as if only one of the USB ports is actually USB 2.0.
The one touch DVD feature sucks too. It still has to load Windows, even though it is supposed to be a fast stand-alone deal. The DVD burning is pretty cool though. I havent used the lightscribe stuff yet, but my friends have lightscribe burners and they love it.
Finally, they lie about the battery capacity. I got mine a little over a month ago and have never had it last more than an hour on batteries, even with the brightness turned all the way down and without using the DVD.
