Customer Reviews:
I was a STi user and dropped them like a Rock!.......2006-06-30
There was a time when STi was one of the best Pay as u go services until they added their every day fees. There is no way to look at your account usage which should be added now that they charge a fee. When you have to roam get ready to pull out your credit card cause it's extra in most areas. Do a search for cellguru.net and find out about the better offers available. But not STi. I liked when there was not a everyday fee and put up with the roam where I just would drive where there was no roam. The minutes I paid for went 85% towards there daily fees. The phone was just a regular flip phone nothing special.
Awesome Phone - Great Service!.......2006-04-28
I recently switched from a contract cellular plan to a prepaid plan because I was tired of paying high bills, outrageous telecom taxes, etc. After I did a lot of research with various prepaid cell phone companies I selected STi Mobile and could not be happier. They have the lowest rates; no hidden fees; and their minutes don't expire. Who could ask for more?
STi mobile offers the lowest rates whether I am making local, long distance or international calls and the coverage is awesome because they are using Sprint's network. The other thing that I liked about STi Mobile was their phone selection. A lot of the prepaid companies use old outdated phones. This LG 225 camera phone is amazing. It not only looks hot but it also has a ton of cool features like speaker phone, voice dialing, digital camera, internal antenna, etc.
I noticed today while surfing Amazon that STi now has an Unlimited Nights & Weekends plan. They did not have this when I signed up but you can be sure I will be switching my plan today to take advantage of the offer.
Don't buy, worst ever phone plan and customer service.......2006-04-26
I bought STi Mobile prepaid phone and service. This is the worst ever service I ever received. The customer service folks are deaf or dump but you have to repeat same sentence several times. There is always noise.
Be careful about hidden charges:
1) By default they enable "Web browser" service which costs you 19c/day. You don't even know until your phone is dead. They start deducting 19c/day until the balance reaches 0. Once it reaches 0 for 14 days, they deactivate your phone. Once deactivate you will loose your number and you have to pay activation again. When I called then about this they said, Customer has to explicitly deny web browser. But how does the customer know if he/she doesn't know about the fact that web browser is added by default.
2) They policies are very stupid. They change their policies without any notice. For example, they added daily fee of 10c without any notice. And start deducting. Again if you are a occasioanal user of this phone you will end up in same problem of reaching 0 balance, deactivation etc.
3) Their customer service is aweful. They ask you to repeat same information again and again. Another strange thing about this service is they ask you account "password". So far I never heard any customer support asking your account password. If you don't like telling your password to anyone you are in my boat. Or put a simple password you don't mind telling to someone.
4) There is no way to know your balance without calling customer service and reaching a live person. I already told you how aweful they are. Other problem is you have to wait for atleast 10 to 15 min to reach a live person to just know the balance. Or else you have to make a call to know the balance.
Another interesting thing happened is they used to tell the balance if you dial a number and hung up immediately. But they changed that policy again without a notice. Now if you dial a number to know the balance you will get charged even if you disconnect immediately (I mean real immediately) you will get charged. When I called customer service (again aweful service) about this, they said yes we changed that. Also mentioned that there is no other way to know the balance otherthan either making a call or calling customer service.
5) Also don't buy recharge card from them goto other retailer. If you buy from them (anything less than $20), you have to pay $1 service fee. But if you buy from a retailer you can avoid the service fee.
6) Btw, if your phone is disconneted by any chance without your knowledge, there is no way you know about it. For any occasional prepaid phone user this is a big problem.
7) Customer service processing any request is horrible slow. First they take quite sometime to write your request and some time they forgot to submit. It happened to me. After I waited for several days and called them to check on the status, they said to me that I never requested anything because they don't have any record. How will there be a record if the previous representative never submits?
They are playing lot of tricks to fool the customers. Though it is comparatively little cheaper prepaid service, don't weight on that. Sooner or later you will end up in paying what you might thought saved.
To conclude my review, I don't recommend at all to use STi Mobile service. No Never...
