A great addition to any home theater set-up, the 26-inch Philips 26PF8946/37 flat-panel LCD TV produces stunning, lively, and colorful images from both TV signals and DVD players. Simply connect an HDTV tuner or cable box and experience high definition broadcasts with amazing color and detail (it includes an NTSC, standard 181-channel tuner). It has a 1280 x 768-pixel resolution, 400:1 contrast ratio, 450 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and 16 millisecond (ms) response time.

This 16:9 widescreen TV features a width-to-height ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing a theater-like experience at home. View HDTV broadcasts and widescreen DVDs the way they were meant to be seen. The Active Control feature continuously measures and corrects all incoming signals to help provide the best picture quality, monitoring and correcting both the sharpness control and noise reduction control. The AutoPicture feature allows you to change the picture settings (color, tint, contrast, etc.) for various types of programming, such as sports, movies, multimedia (games), or weak signals with the push of one button. Other features include PC display capability and a built-in FM radio tuner.

The Basics

Hard Drive: The 160 GB hard drive (7200 RPM) is very large in size compared to other budge-conscious, family-oriented desktop PCs. It provides a good size for a wide range of software applications and a generously sized digital audio library as well as room enough for editing digital home video.

Processor: The Intel Celeron M Processor 380 is traditionally designed specifically for mobile computing, but the 380 enables the SlimLine s7400n to keep cool even when multitasking. The 1.6 GHz speed resides near the very top of the spectrum for this processor (as of March 2006). It also features a 400 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and large 1 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory (2 x 256 MB, DDR2 SDRAM, PC-4200) will get you off the ground, and it offers a fast 533 MHz speed. But you'll want to take advantage of the 2 GB capacity for working with today's demanding business productivity applications.

CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the s7400n's multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.

This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs. Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.

Very impressive and it's SO small.......2006-07-21

Love this HP Pavilion, was a MUCH better value for the money than the comparable Dell. My only two small complaints were AOL was loaded as default internet brouser and it took me about 20 minutes to figure out how to dump that irritaion. Also defaults to Norton as my anti virus and I still have not figured out how to dump that irritating pop up. Otherwise, it's great.

This is a terrible product.......2006-07-15

I was unfortunate enough to have purchased this item. I had to return the 1st unit I purchased after a couple of days because it was making a terrible noise. The 2nd unit's video card failed after 4 months. Because I was stupid enough to think that HP made good products, I didn't purchase an extended warranty. HP makes it as difficult as possible to get anything fixed under the standard warranty. The HP staff is very little help and close to rude in my opinion. You have to ship the unit to some place, but since I had something on the hard drive that was sensitive, I asked for the part so I could have someone competent fix it (I now believe that all of HP products and staff are worthless). They won't even ship the part so I have to go to great expense and time to have it fixed. I will never buy *anything* from HP again!
