Amazon.com Product Description
Samsung's fourth-generation plasma television, the 42-inch SP-P4251, uses the company's proprietary electronic chassis and its latest DNIe picture-enhancement circuitry to deliver outstanding brightness, contrast, and overall picture clarity. Use it for home theater and use it for your PC--it's perfect for both. It comes with a pedestal stand and a pair of built-in NTSC tuners for split-screen and PIP viewing (small, large, double). Built-in analog tuners allow you to connect an analog RF signal cable or antenna directly to the set and watch standard-definition TV right out of the box.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the SP-P4251 is a mere 3.4 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.

The set boasts an incredible contrast ratio of 3,000:1 and a brightness rating of 1,000 cd/m2. With every scene, the picture is clear and vivid, capturing and revealing every detail, even in bright light. The set's picture-frame design is finished in luxurious aluminum and acrylic with contrasting tones of sliver and black. The use of these colors and materials help eliminate glare and facilitate comfortable viewing, freeing your eyes to focus only on the picture.

The set's panel construction is calibrated for better performance and greater durability than earlier plasma models--even surpassing the longevity of prior-generation CRT sets, offering a 50,000-hour panel life (viewing time under normal conditions, after which picture deterioration may occur).

Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) combines a Motion Optimizer, Contrast Enhancer, Detail Enhancer, and Color Optimizer to deliver a vivid, lifelike picture. With the Motion Optimizer, fast-moving images are rendered with more natural-looking motion, without blurring or noise. DNIe's Detail Enhancer analyzes video elements to produce sharper detail, clear image separation, and natural edge transition. The Color Optimizer gives colors lifelike realism while making whites more accurate and skin tones more natural. The Contrast Enhancer gives you deeper, richer blacks with greater detail and more natural whites.

In addition to component (Y, Pb, Pr) inputs for an HD set-top box, PC, and DVD player, the set also offers an DVI-HDTV (Digital Visual Interface) jack for the best possible resolution in a direct digital connection. In keeping with the slim profile of the Plasma TV, AV jacks are on the side so that, even after installation, peripherals such as video players, camcorders, and other AV equipment can be easily connected.

Built-in speakers powered by 12 watts per channel means your movies and TV programming will sound great even without a standalone multichannel surround system. Helping out in the surround-effect department, SRS TruSurround XT incorporates these features: TruSurround 6CH Surround Effect, TruBass Virtual Woofer Effect, Dialog Clarity Virtual Center Effect, and WOW Stereo Enhancement.

Wall mounting is optional using Samsung's WMN4240 wall-mount kit.

4 out of 5 stars Still love my 30".......2007-01-25

I purchased the Dell over the Apple (always been a loyal Apple person...had 6 Macs to date) for use with my G5 for a few reasons.
1. The waiting time was next to nothing...the Dell people made everything so painless that it was being shipped the day after I placed the order, and was here in 3! Never my experience with Apple, especially my last purchase, a G5, it took almost a month!
2. The warranty! Dell gave me (I bought), a 5 year "accidental damage" warranty. In other words, if I drop it, they replace it, at least that's what is supposed to happen! LOL!
But anyway, I wanted a "bumper-to-bumper" on this thing. I got it soon after they just released the 30"s, and it was around $1500.

Oh, BTW, the picture is great, really, LOT's of realestate!
The only problem I have with it is the power button STINKS! I can see it going bad REAL soon, in fact, it acts up now, but beyond that, I LUV it!

The only reason I give this just 4 stars is the power button.

4 out of 5 stars Definitely not a monitor for the kids.......2006-05-04

My first exposure to such grandeur was back in February 2005, with Apple's 30-inch, 2560x1600 Cinema Display. At that time, however, the only videocards for the PC that supported Dual Link DVI-which the LCD's native resolution demands-were costly, impractical workstation boards.

But times have changed, and today high-end consumer boards boast the Dual Link spec, putting a 2560x1600 30-inch LCD monitor within reach of PC power users. And prices have plummeted too.

In action, the 3007WFP's epic size is astounding, but also a little daunting. In practice, I was most comfortable viewing the beast from about three feet away. At this distance, you can see, nay, behold, the numerous documents and windows you can have open at once, and yet still read text at a 9-point or higher.

The 3007WFP offers substantial height adjustment (3.54 inches); four powered USB 2.0 ports; and a built-in 9-in-1 media reader. But the LCD is sadly lacking any onscreen display adjustments-offering a pair of buttons to control the backlight's brightness.

Still, with the brightness all the way up, the 3007WFP turned out a very strong performance in DisplayMate, revealing no flaws in the grayscale reproduction, screen uniformity, or video bandwidth tests.

Not surprisingly, movies and digital pictures look great on the giant screen. Gaming, however, comes with a couple compromises. It's unlikely you'll run your games at the monitor's native-res without taking a performance hit. (It's telling that Dell is pairing this monitor with its Renegade XPS quad-GPU gaming PC.) Quake 4 at 2560x1600 on my P4 3.4GHz/GeForce GTX PC was unplayably slow. So I scaled the res down to 1600x900, the next possible setting this LCD supports full-screen (unfortunately), where contrast and detail were diminished and the picture seemed soft.

Perhaps this is the result of the 11ms response time, or that the interpolation is just much more noticeable over such a large area. Similarly, in Need for Speed 2, interpolated to 1024x768, the screen was less sharp than Samsung's super-fast 940BF. It wasn't intolerable, and some people felt like the sheer size of the screen makes it a fair tradeoff; it's just something to consider before succumbing to the sex appeal of such a massive (and very expensive) monitor.
