The Sony R57W47C is a fully integrated ATSC tuner with the ability to receive off-air high definition broadcasts without the need for an external set-top box. A digital cable tuner (QAM) allows for the reception of digital cable signals that are not scrambled. The automatic system HD Focus eliminates the need to manually adjust the picture. Simply select HD Focus from the onscreen set-up menu, and 16 sensors automatically adjust the picture from center to edge in ten seconds. Specifically developed for digital program content, CRTs maximize brightness and picture detail.

The Zenith R57W47C offers HD-grade optics, which improves brightness and focus, and reduces overall cabinet depth. Zenith's improved high-output CRT is specifically developed for digital program content and maximizes brightness and picture detail. The automatic HD Focus system eliminates the need to manually adjust the picture. Simply select HD Focus from the onscreen set-up menu, and it will automatically adjust the picture from center to edge.
The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing feature detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter analyzes consecutive scanning lines within a field as well as the preceding and following fields. This results in improved detail and color purity, a more stable video image, and nearly eliminating dot crawl and color bleeding. Other video features include a fine 0.52mm dot pitch for improved picture detail, color temperature selection, gamma correction, all-format up converter, and video noise reduction.
The R50W47C includes two-tuner picture-in-picture (PiP) as well as picture-outside-picture (PoP), with a division of up to four pictures on the screen and functionality such as split window and picture swap. It also offers such TV features as V-chip parental control, sleep timer, favorite channel functionality, and tri-lingual menus (English, French, Spanish). This TV also has a high-contrast protective screen and rear carrying handles to enable easy movement from room to room.
This TV has a pair of built-in stereo speakers that produce 15 watts per channel (30 watts total), which can provide Dolby virtual surround sound. It also includes five DSP sound field modes (user, movie, sport, music, virtual) and a volume limiter, which adjusts the volume automatically when there's a significant increase in sound.
