The CT-27HL14 comes packed with features, including a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, to create the ultimate home entertainment experience. The 3-line digital comb filter separates color from black-and-white accurately in a television signal. As a result, it improves overall color sensitivity and image clarity. In order to enjoy high-definition TV you must connect the TV to a DTV set-top box and a DTV signal must be present in your area.

Parental control give parents ultimate control over what their children are watching. You can lock out up to 4 channels, or choose to lock all channels with other selectable options. A 4-digit code needs to be entered to deactivate the lock. Parents can also prevent the use of video games or other video sources from being displayed. Other handy features include picture-in-picture (PIP) with a split-screen display, a sleep timer, multilingual menus, closed captioning, and the TV comes with Panasonic's Director lighted home theater remote with joystick.

Enjoy virtual surround sound without the elaborate home theater system. With only two speakers it can simulate cinema-like sound when playing any Dolby Digital DVD or Video DC. Granted, this isn't a 7200RPM, nor a perpendicular media drive; however, Seagate's Momentus drives generally outperform all drives of the same class.

This drive has an 8mb cache, which helps for read ahead, write behind, and keeping frequently accessed data such as directories and inodes in ram for faster access.

I used this drive to upgrade my default toshiba 4200rpm drive that came with my laptop. The Momentus seems to queue better, than the Toshiba. I don't get OS hangs during multiple simultaneous I/O operations. The faster spindle speed helps for file transfers to and from my file server, and general operations.

Overall, the only drives that compare to the Momentus are the Hitachi Travelstar; however, Hitachi drives use more power and generate more heat. Both of those are things to avoid in a laptop for comfort and battery life. Plus, heat reduces the coercivity of magnetic media. IE, the hotter it runs, the more likely you'll get spurious bit reversals (think 1999 DeskStar class action lawsuit against IBM, whose drives were sold to Hitachi after settlement).

Anyway, I'm not the only one. TomsHardware.Com will back me up on performance.

As for warranty, it's very rare that I need warranty replacement of a seagate drive unless I've damaged it or overheated it. The few times I've had to contact seagate, replacement has been simple, easy and quick. For some products, they offer cross-ship.

Most seagate drives are Manufactured in Singapore; however, they build, test, and make a few small runs in Boulder, CO. Their facilities are well run, clean, and overall instill confidence.

Bad product, bad warranty.......2006-05-02

I bought this drive in February of this year and within 60 days, it was whirring and running slowly. Now it's messing up daily in one way or another.

Seagate's "five year warranty" means they'll replace your drive with a refurbished drive, and I figure if a new one was no good, a refurbished one won't be any better. They suggested I return it to the store to see if maybe the store would replace it with a new one (which they wouldn't). I have no choice but to replace my brand new hard drive with a refurbished one.
