The Twinhead Durabook N15RI notebook PC is a rugged little number that will withstand the bumps and shocks of daily usage. It features a magnesium alloy case that can withstand drops of 29 inches onto hard surfaces, a spill-resistant keyboard/touchpad, and an exclusive optical drive lock that prevents discs from ejecting accidentally and damaging the drive. It's tough enough to meet US military MIL-810F shock resistance standards. It also includes double protection smart battery circuitry, which helps prevent damage caused by overheating and voltage surges, as well as battery calibration that helps fight battery capacity loss after repeated charges and discharges.
But more than just a protective fortress of data, the N15RA also offers powerful computing performance with the battery-sipping 1.73 GHz Intel Pentium M 740 processor. Other features include a bright 15.1-inch LCD screen, 80 GB Serial ATA hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), 802.11b/g wireless LAN, dual-layer DVD burner, and long battery life of up to 3 hours.
The Basics

Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive is average in size for notebook PCs. It offers more than enough capacity for storing documents and productivity software for road warriors. You'll also be able to store a good-sized digital audio library. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
Processor: The 1.73 GHz Pentium M 740 (Centrino) processor is in the middle of the speed spectrum for this processor class (May 2006). It is well equipped for office productivity software tasks, from complex spreadsheets to databases. The Pentium M processor is designed specifically for low-power mobile usage, and it features the latest in power-saving technologies--ensuring you push your battery and productivity to the max. It also has a large 2 MB L2 cache--which will help speed up your system's performance--and a 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB).
Memory: The 512 MB of installed RAM is enough to get you started, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. It has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity.
CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data.
Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a spill-resistant 86-key keyboard with LCD on/off, LCD/CRT switch, and LCD brightness keys.
Screen, Graphics and Sound
The 15.1-inch TFT LCD screen offers an XGA resolution (1024 x 768). Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) and provides up to 128 MB of shared video memory. The integrated audio card provides 16-bit stereo sound via the built-in stereo speakers.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The N15RI has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. It also offers the following connectivity options:

3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
1 Serial port
1 VGA monitor port
1 S-Video port
1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type II, 32-bit)
1 line-out jack for headphones
1 S/PDIF digital audio
1 microphone jack
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100/1000 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software
This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 operating system with Advanced Security Technologies, which helps to reduce unwanted downloads and pop-ups while surfing the Web.
Dimensions and Weight
This notebook measures 13 x 10.85 x 1.6 inches (WxDxH) and weighs pp pounds.
Power
It's powered by a 6-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which has a battery life of up to 3 hours (depending on usage).
What's in the Box
This package contains the N15RI notebook PC, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions.

Hopefully I just got a lemon.......2007-02-16
I chose the Durabook sight unseen because I fried my last HP with a tablespoon of wine. I travel a lot and want a rugged and reliable unit to use anywhere. Unfortunately, after a week of use the Durabook suddenly quit. I don't know if it's the power supply, just a fuse or the motherboard. I called Twinhead Tech support and a very nice lady explained that she is not a technician and that "the" technician (could there be only one?) would have to call me back. He never did so I decided to return it to Amazon, they promised to send a call tag but after a month and many emails it has not yet been picked up. In the meantime I replaced it with the 13.3" Durabook and that is working fine.
My observations from my brief time with the N15RI are: I liked the keyboard (others have complained about it,but I found it to have a nice feel), screen is adequate, I liked that it came with very little preloaded software to clutter it up (pretty much just XP, IE, Intel wifi and Norton), As others have commented it did run VERY HOT, and as the fan is on the bottom (?) anything underneath (including your lap) gets scorched (could this have something to do with the failure?). Interestingly the 13NRI does not run so hot. Aesthetically i wouldn't call it beautiful, but closed it looks purposeful and tough. Open, the plastic panels around the keyboard and screen seem cheap compared to the metal. It's quite hefty, not really something I want to carry in my briefcase and that's part of why when I replaced it I went with the smaller unit. Neither has much connectivity but the 15NRI has a firewire port and 3 instead of 2 USBs. Both could use a cardreader and bluetooth for my uses. I likethe manual dial for volume. WiFi sometimes comes on automatically and other times has to be manually turned on, a bit annoying. It comes with a decent vinyl case but no documentation. All in all decent for the price if durability is more important than bells and whistles (assuming my problem was an anomaly).
