2 out of 5 stars Cumbersome.......2007-03-09

In addition to not getting the product that I actually ordered (the case with the extended battery cut-out), what I did receive is cumbersome and makes some of the functions of the phone unusable while it's in the case. The largest problem for me is the fact that the phone will not fit into its cradle while in the case. What this means is that you have to take the phone out of the case before inserting in the cradle or plug one of the the USB cables directly into the phone. However, if you do that, you can either use the synch cable or the power cable but not both.

Another "feature" which surprised me, is the hard cover that protects the screen. For whatever reason, I just assumed that I would be able to use the touch-screen without having to open the case (which is a little tricky in and of itself) but that's not true.

Finally, the Explorer button and IR port are inaccessible when the phone is in the case.

While I don't doubt that this product will protect your device, it does so at the expense of usability--I could stick my phone in a vault and it would be protected, but it wouldn't be of much use. Not recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Arguably the best case out there for the 6700.......2007-01-14

I spent hours looking for the right case for my 6700. My criteria (beyond just protecting my phone) were:

- it needed to protect the screen with a plastic cover so I could still see the screen while it was in the case
- it needed to allow very easy access to the touchscreen and keypad while still somehow keeping the phone inside the case
- it needed to allow access to all external buttons and the camera
- it needed to allow access for the expanded battery pack

From my online analysis, this case seemed to meet all my criteria. When I received it, I was pleasantly surprised. It has a very solid transparent plastic covering to protect the screen yet still allows me to see the screen. It flips open to allow access to the screen with the stylus, and while in this open mode, you can slide open the keypad and use it quite comfortably, even with the case hanging open. And as you can see from the pictures, it allows access to all external buttons (expect, as another reviewer pointed out, that the IE button is hard to press, especially with the case open ... that could have been easily solved by moving the hinge down 1/2") and has room for the expanded battery pack. And the neoprene liner inside the case gives it some nice shock absorption.

My only complaints are:

1) When the case is open and the phone is slid fully open to access the keyboard, if you were to drop the phone in this position, the sharp metal clasp on the lid of the case would slam down right on the center of the screen, no doubt breaking it! I try to be very careful when I'm using the keyboard, but I'm worried that someday I'm going to drop it in this position and destroy my 6700. Granted, even if you drop your 6700 without a case, you're probably also in trouble ....

2) As another reviewer pointed out, when the case is open so you have access to the screen and/or keypad, there isn't much holding the phone in the case. Actually, it does fit very snugly in the case (clearly very well-designed and manufactured), so it's not like it easily comes out, but I could imagine that if you fumbled with it in this position it could fall out of the case.

3) When in the case, the phone won't fit in the charger stand. Again, not sure any metal case could be designed for the 6700 that would not create this problem.

Finally, and this isn't a bad point about this particular case per se, but about all metal cases in general. I know I didn't think about this until I had already gotten the case, so just something for everybody else to consider when looking at cases for any phone. Getting a hard and rugged metal case like this one really adds to the bulk and uncomfortableness of having it in your pocket. If you wear it on your hip, then no problem. But for those of us who keep it in our pocket, it would be much more comfortable (and warmer than cold metal!) if it were made out of leather or some other similar material. However, you can't really make something that easily flips open out of leather ....

The reality is, with a phone that slides open to reveal a keypad, it's inherently very hard to make a perfect case. So, in conclusion, I think this is definitely one of the best out there, but I only gave it 4 of 5 just because I would like to see it redesigned so the open lid can't smack the screen and have the hinge moved slightly to allow easier access to the IE button.

2 out of 5 stars It broke my phone on the first day........2007-01-07

I was very excited about this case, from the pictures it was just what I wanted. The case itself is very nice indeed it's constructed well with smooth edges, a professional look, and easy access to all the buttons (except the internet explorer button the hinge gets in the way) and ports. Though from the pictures I thought the screen was unprotected from the case that's not true it is indeed protected by a THICK plastic cover which does not allow you to touch the screen without opening, though it's very good protection for the screen. The swivel that comes with the case is neat in the sense that you can unscrew it if you don't intend on using it and it has a quick release button so you can quickly remove it from your belt without taking the whole clip off. However the swivel does now allow you to position your phone, it is completely free moving and it sways on your hip with nearly every step. Lastly the phone just sits in the padded case, it does not attach in any form nor is it a snug fit it just sets inside and you snap the case closed. This is a very bad thing because the latch is not very secure and on the first day of having this new case I accidentally hit the case with my hand/arm and the case flew open my phone fell out and hit the stone floor face down breaking my joystick on my ppc-6700. Now my joystick can not be used and my phone keeps opening random applications because it thinks the joystick is being pressed in hence selecting the highlighted item. I hate to bash the item so bad but it is the cause of breaking my $550 phone.

5 out of 5 stars rugged and well worth buying.......2006-10-10

This case is the best! These phones have a tendency to wake up while they're in your pocket, and with this case there is no risk of accidentally hitting buttons (except the ones on the bottom, but they're not as sensitive as the screen). It can take a fair amount if abuse too. It fits snugly and still allows you to use the slide out keyboard, volume/recording buttons, camera functions. Just flip it open and you can make a call. You don't ever have to remove it from the case, even to charge it or listen to music. But, if you use the belt clip it can make the whole thing quite bulky.
