Customer Reviews:
Very Pleased with 931B!.......2007-02-05
After owning an extremely nice 17" LG Flatron I was a bit hesitant at switching brands, but this 19" Samsung is a great monitor. It has a very nice picture, controls and a nice black, unobtrusive bezel. The picture is bright, crisp and with great text. The color match software is nice also and gives the user great control over the settings. This is a great monitor period and for the price a real bargain.
Great Upgrade .......2007-01-22
Bought this LCD to upgrade a 17 inch CRT clunker. No dead pixels, complete installation took less than 15 minutes. Windows XP recognized LCD without having to load any drivers. Display is bright and clear, actually had to adjust default brightness to lower setting. Adjusted monitor settings to display larger icons and fonts so I don't have to wear my reading glasses when viewing lcd. Reduced footprint gave us 25% more desktop space. LCD looks so good on desk, we decided to purchase a color matching wireless keyboard/mouse combo, now it looks as if have a brand new system. With dual digital/analog connection, will not have to purchase a monitor when we decide to upgrade our present computer. Great upgrade purchase for our household.
Very nice for its price range.......2007-01-07
I got a Samsung 931b several months ago and since then I've used it for both gaming and functions involving text (email, web pages, etc). It's performed admirably with everything I've attempted.
That's not to say that if you're looking for the very best that monitors have to offer, this is a good choice. It's a great monitor for the price range it's in, but if you want the very best you'll be better off with something like an Apple Cinema Display (for substantially more money to match the rise in quality).
I should mention that while the native resolution reported as 1280x1024, it doesn't seem to work out well on all computers. When I plugged it into my laptop to use as an external monitor, I had it set to 1280x1024 with a 75Hz refresh rate. With that setting, there was a faint flickering quality (particularly around the edges of windows, took me an hour or so to notice it) to the image that did NOT appear with the same settings on my desktop. I corrected the problem by adjusting down to 1280x960 and it looks great. I have a feeling that this behavior was due more to the hardware in my laptop or because it's hooked up with an analog cable + DVI adapter (particularly because it behaves more nicely with the desktop) and it's possible my laptop would do the same thing to other monitors with similar resolution settings. I haven't tested to know one way or the other.
[Update: I eventually got around to getting a proper DVI cable to use with my laptop in place of the analog cable + DVI adapter arrangement described above. This solved the unsteady display issue at 1280x1024. So, it's confirmed that this was an analog + adapter signal issue. If anyone else experiences a similar problem, get a dual-link DVI cable and it may improve things for you.]
Another thing that's worth mentioning is that there are two connections on the back of the monitor for cables: one analog and one DVI. There's also a button on the front to toggle which of those connections it looks at for the signal it will use. The box only included an analog cable, no DVI cable so I haven't tested, but this gives me the impression that you would be able to attach two computers to the monitor at once and toggle which one is actually displaying at will.
There's a set of buttons just below the front of the monitor (hidden under a lip to avoid disrupting the aesthetics) that allow you to do the swapping mentioned above, and also to change the usual values such as brightness and color settings. As another review mentioned, the picture provided by Amazon does not currently actually portray the 931b. I'd suggest that you search the web for other pictures so that you can get a correct one.
A general reminder about monitor shopping: if at all possible, you should SEE the monitor before you buy it. While a particular processor is the same no matter who has it, and the same goes for RAM etc, a monitor is a more personal thing. What picture looks best to one person may not be as pleasing to another. You'll probably find your time at the computer far more pleasant if you make sure that the picture its monitor produces is pleasing to *your* eyes.
Quite pleased.......2006-12-13
I'm not computer savy so I can't really go into detail beyond the basics. I purchased this monitor (not online) based on side by side comparisons with other monitors, obviously I was pleased. The Samsung 931B is a wonderful monitor with more size than I probably needed. Being that I upgraded from my ViewSonic 15 inch flat screen, I thought it made more sense to go with the 19" rather than the 17" but I will say that the 17" would have been fine. I know nothing about pixels or contrast, all I know is clear and crisp which is exactly what this screen is. I'm quite happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this monitor to the average user like myself.
Fantastic monitor!.......2006-11-12
I bought one of these, and the picture was so wonderful that I ran out and bought another one immediately. I bought both over the internet, and there are no bad pixels, or any problems whatsoever. Just beautiful.
The Amazon picture shown is a little different from what mine look like. Mine have a round base with a metal power button in the lower right corner.
Highly recommend.
