I bought the Acer TravelMate 4202WLMi when my custom-built notebook died after 3 years of strong dependability. I'm a writer and audio production engineer, and though the other laptop was purchased 4 years ago, it was still a better computer than this one is. Even with a decent Core Duo processor and all the bells and whistles that I purchased as part of the package, it was more sluggish than the older one when running multiple programs simultaneously.

After about 10 months, the power supply started acting up, then the computer started flickering and shutting itself down, then some of the keys on the keyboard stopped working unless I pushed them several times, and one of the keys even broke. This all happened within about 2 months, and when I called to get it repaired, they said it was out of warranty, even though I was two days inside the deadline from when I received it.

You can get better for less money. The Acer Travelmate 4202WLMi isn't bad if you don't plan on doing anything besides watching DVDs, checking your e-mail and composing letters...but it's way WAY WAYYYYYYY overpriced for the performance I expected to get. PC Magazine even gave this thing a good review...that's the last time I take THEIR advice.

I needed a hardy workhorse notebook. This one is not it. If you're an audio or video geek, proceed with caution if you plan on purchasing an Acer. Myself, I won't buy another one.
