With the VI-3155i, Classic Nokia styling comes to a powerful flip phone that showcases the great services you get from Sprint PCS. The phone is packed with extras like a built-in FM radio, speakerphone, video ringers, MMS messaging, and loads of memory to store your favorite video ringers, games, and more. Plus, you get compatibility with Sprint's PCS Vision services.

Design
One of the 3155i's best features is its gorgeous, 128 x 160 display, which supports a luscious 262,000 colors. There's also a supplementary, 96 x 65 monochrome display on the outside of the cover that displays call information, battery life, time of day, signal strength and more. An extendable antenna is located on the top right side of the phone. The outside cover also features a speaker/microphone for speakerphone and voice recognition applications. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button above the handset's dial pad. A 2.5 mm headset jack is also provided, and there's a USB connector for connecting the phone to your PC for calendar and contact synchronization.

Calling Features
The phone's built-in address book allows you to assign up to 500 entries, each storing up to five numbers. You can customize your caller ID by linking a ringtone to a specific phone number in your phone book. The phone supports polyphonic ringtones or you can choose a vibrating alert when you want to be discreet. And because the 3155i is Video Ringer enabled, you can download ringers featuring audio and video content and assign them to incoming calls.

Voice dialing lets you call your most important contacts with the sound of your voice, and don't forget the speakerphone! It's great for making calls when you're busy with other tasks. As an added bonus, the 3155i's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911 (where available). Perhaps most importantly for users in rural areas, the 3155i is a tri-mode phone, meaning it can operate on Sprint's digital PCS network, as well as analog networks that serve many outlying areas.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The 3155i covers the messaging basics with support for sending and receiving text and picture messages via MMS. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built-into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

As mentioned, the phone also supports PCS Vision email and instant messaging capabilities. Sprint PCS Vision transforms the wireless experience from something that's simply functional into something visual, entertaining and highly personalized. MSN Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, and AOL Instant Messenger are all supported by Sprint's PCS Vision service. PCS Vision mobile Web services let you check out sports scores, get your seven-day forecast, check your flight status, and stay up to date with the latest news. You can also experience full-color graphic versions of popular Web sites.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the 3155i including a calendar, a calculator, an alarm clock, and a to-do list. A voice recorder lets you record 180-second voice memos for later retrieval.

Entertainment
The 3155i's FM radio makes it possible to tune into your favorite stations wherever you roam. Meanwhile, you can choose from a variety of pre-set images to customize your display and make it unique to you. With PCS Vision's wireless download service, you can reflect your interests with thousands of pictures of your favorite TV characters, sports teams, celebrities, urban artwork, and more. You can also download games like Tetris and Pac-Man for hours of fun.

This phone was manufactured with a defective front cover. It cracks down at the bottom just from the action of closing it. Their repair center even admitted to this and said it was redesigned but they did not issue a recall.

DO NOT BUY IT!.......2006-12-06

I received this phone in March. I've never dropped it or abused it. Just like most everyone else's review, my hinge has cracked and the phone split in two--within 9 months. Worst phone I've ever had. Don't even think of buying it!

Hinge defective.......2006-10-29

The menus are decent and the reception is great, just like the Nokia candy bar models I had been using the past few years. But the quality of this phone is lousy. When I switched to Sprint a few months ago I got this Nokia flip phone, and it is now starting to split along the hinge, just as the other reviewers mentioned. Looks like it will come apart completely before long. Stay away from this phone! It's just not worth it. Nokia should issue a recall.

I've had this phone for almost a year now and I really like it. I haven't had an issue with the phone cracking like some other reviewers seem to have had. One thing that is an issue is that this phone seems to have its own special charger that is not compatible with other Nokias and visa versa. The reception and battery life both seem to have held out. It looks like an older phone and probably isn't as nice as some of the newer ones out there, but I got this phone for free. It doesn't have a lot of features like a camera or MP3 player, but it does seem to be capable of downloading any game or ringtone that you might want. The feature I like most about this phone is that it allows you to record anything and make that as your ringtone. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because it is an older model (I wish it had a camera) and I would like a color screen on the front and for it to be compatible with other Nokia chargers. Overall? Great phone!

Aweful!.......2006-10-25

I got this phone with my sprint plan November of last year, and since then my nokia 3155i has broken at the hinge FOUR times, averaging one break every 3 months. Every time it's the same problem - the hinge of the phone starts cracking and then pieces start falling off! I'll be so happy when I can upgrade to a new phone!
