Your thin friend. See the features of the Motorola L2 in detail.

Design
At less than a half-inch thick, the L2 borrows heavily from the popular design of the Motorola SLVR L7. A large 128 x 160 color display with 65,000 colors resides above the handset's backlit control pad. Most of the phone's menus and features are controlled by a circular control pad just above the numeric keypad. Up/down buttons are placed on the left side, and there's also a highly accessible mini-USB port on the right side of the phone for data synchronization.

Calling Features
The L2's internal phone book can hold up to 500 contacts. The phone also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3-based ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from Cingular Wireless' MEdia Net service. And for times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear.

Because the L2 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The L2 is a messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, and sound via messages. Instant messaging is supported via AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and ICQ, and the phone also ships with a built-in email client. Plus, there's a wireless Web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. Cingular's MEdia Net service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the L2, including a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock. Use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data.

Entertainment
The L2 supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your mood. Support for gaming is also built into the phone and games are available for download via the Cingular MEdia Net service.

Vital Statistics
The Motorola L2 weighs 2.8 ounces and measures 4.33 x 1.93 x .41 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 14 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

1 out of 5 stars Worst phone ever.......2007-05-22

Pros:
looks "cool"
small footprint

Cons:
Cheaply made and put together - it feels rather flimsy
Menus are not intuitive
Battery indicator is highly inaccurate
EVERY time I receive a message, every piece of electronics in the room buzzes.
I dropped the phone ONCE and the screen shattered. It's supposed to be a phone, not an egg.
The phone should come with the MPT software, not including it is a cheapskate move on the part of the manufacturer.

5 out of 5 stars great phone.......2007-05-09

I love the L2....Have had lots of phones with alot of wasted options...Who really prints out photos from a cell??? Great sound and service. I was about to dump cingular since my calls were always dropping, then I got the L2. No More Dropped Calls!!!

OH - and for all of you who don't read the manuals or at least skim through them, you CAN quick lock your keypad... just press the (-) button for menu then the (*) star button.

1 out of 5 stars This phone is terrible.......2007-04-26

I have not tried bluetooth with this phone, and I have not tried using it outside of the U.S. That being said, I'm listing pros and cons below. I've had this phone for about 6 months, and have given up and am looking to buy a new phone before I'm due for an upgrade with Cingular. I never had a problem with Nokia in the past, and I'm going to buy that brand from now on.

Pros:
-This phone looks cool and is slim and lightweight
-You can program five different alarm clock times and name them, which is nice.
-The battery is great

Cons:
-The software is not intuitive at all, and it takes a long time to find the correct menu for doing simple things
-Perhaps it is Cingular, or perhaps it is the phone, but I have given up trying to have important conversations on this phone. People always have trouble hearing me, and I can rarely hear them. (I get angry whenever I see Cingular's "fewest dropped calls" ads.) This phone is quad-band, which is why I bought it--I thought that meant it would have great reception, which it certainly doesn't. It supposedly could be used in Africa, yet I have terrible reception in Chicago...
-The speakerphone sounds garbled most of the time.
-Several other little things: like the screen is never dim. It's either on full blast bright or totally dark.

4 out of 5 stars This is a Great Phone.......2007-04-24

I got this phone free as an upgrade on Cingular, and I really like it, its easy to hold, everyone can hear me, love the speaker phone, didn't need or want a camera - I have a Nikon, I have the pretty pink one, I haven't been able to play around too much with it, since I have to purchase the motorola phone tools and a usb cable, thats why I only gave it 4 stars, its too bad it didn't come with those 2 items. But so far I've had no problems with it this is a welcome change from 2 years of a flip phone.

4 out of 5 stars Good Hardware, Dumb Software.......2007-03-18

Pros: Stylish, good display, easy to connect to PC with Motorola Phone Tools, quad-band.

Cons: Software design just plain silly, confusing menus, can't scroll backwards on some menus(!), side button makes it too easy to accidentally mute ringer.

Bottom line: a good, basic phone with some quirks.
